The FMA Insurance team is a global specialist, product agnostic investment strategy and structuring team which focuses on serving insurance clients through the entire BlackRock platform. The team is comprised of investment, insurance, risk and advisory specialists with diverse backgrounds.
The team partners all client and investment teams at BlackRock to originate, design and implement investment and risk management strategies that are appropriate for insurers, exploiting our expertise of insurance investment under regulatory, accounting and enterprise constraints.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will contribute to the success of the FMA Insurance team, and BlackRock’s broader insurance business, in several ways including: -
• Supporting the Head of Insurance Solutions in the Americas with the determination and execution of business strategy for BlackRock’s insurance business in the Americas, partnering with key stakeholders in the insurance business development and portfolio management groups
• Collaborating effectively with FMA Insurance team members and other stakeholders globally to both receive and deliver expertise and support in connection with the origination and execution of investment mandates, Aladdin engagements and product sales with insurers
• Working directly with clients and prospects to address strategic questions of asset allocation and investment management, guiding the client towards the most appropriate investment outcomes
• Delivering high impact investment content and industry insights to clients
• Supporting the efforts of the firm and those of insurance clients undergoing M&A, reinsurance, legacy book management and similar activity with the design of appropriate investment strategies and the provision of investment-related transaction support and advice
Qualifications
Knowledge/Experience:
• High level of integrity and a focus on delivering work to a high standard, enabling the candidate to become a trusted partner to clients and peers
• Significant (c. 10-15 years’) professional experience in insurance investment or related disciplines
• A strong understanding of insurers’ capital modelling, ALM and asset allocation frameworks and the quantitative models and techniques that they use to support their business
• A strong understanding of the accounting, regulatory, risk management and strategic frameworks under which insurers in the Americas operate
• An open mindset that seeks continuous improvement in client outcomes through the building of new capabilities and the adoption of existing capabilities
• A strong track record in execution through teamwork and the ability to collaborate and engage effectively and efficiently within a large and complex organization
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to distil complex topics into a framework appropriate for a diverse range of stakeholders
