OHSU Family Medicine is part of OHSU School of Medicine and is focused on family health. Cascades East Family Medicine Residency is located in Klamath Falls, Oregon, providing an incredible rural medicine experience. The clinic is a certified Patient Centered Primary Care Home, with an emphasis on comprehensiveness, team-based care and innovation. Sky Lakes Medical Center, the hospital at which the Cascades East Family Medicine Residency program is based, is the only hospital for the Klamath Basin. The combination of a strong medical community and populations with significant health care needs makes Klamath Falls a unique setting to teach, practice, and train. Family physicians provide comprehensive care to patients, communities, and families.
The appointee will work with collaboratively with residency leadership and other maternity care providers at Sky Lakes Medical center to ensure excellence in all aspects of prenatal care, maternity care, postpartum care, and care of children provided by Cascades East providers in the clinic and at Sky Lakes Medical center. The appointee will ensure high quality clinical and educational opportunities for family medicine residents and other learners to gain competence and excellence in maternity care and care of children.
The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service.
Function/Duties of PositionThe duties of the Family Medicine Maternal-Child Health Director at 0.25 FTE are to:
Check in with residents at the Family Birthing Center 2 – 3 days a week, reviewing learning environment, sign out process, interprofessional interactions, and offering guidanceOversee or collaborate on the attending call schedule for the Cascades East OB/Peds Service and collaborate with others who are scheduling residency activities, call, including other collaborative call groupsAttend Faculty MeetingsRepresent the Residency Program at the Peds and OB Collaborative Practice CommitteesServe on the RMT Inpatient service, Cascades East OB and Peds Call in a manner commensurate with other facultyFacilitate a Quality Program for the Cascades East Maternity Care Service and Cascades East prenatal care and coordinate evaluation of critical quality incidentsBe responsive to the needs of Sky Lakes leadership as it relates to maternity care, and build relationships and collaborate with aligned services, e.g. OB/GYN, perinatology and MidwiferyBuild relationships with the maternal child health providers in the communityBe responsive to the needs of Cascades East clinic leadership as it relates to prenatal care, proactive scheduling of pregnant patients, resident continuity OB experiences, precepting maternity careCoordinate coverage of the OB and Peds call for special events such as Resident Graduation, Resident RetreatCollaborate with external groups, including, but not limited to Klamath Health Partnership, pediatricians, obstetricians, perinatologists, to assure quality care of patients and respectful team-based careAssist the residency director, medical directors, chair, and others in coordinating the credentialing and billing processes for maternity careAssure full and part time faculty providing maternity care and precepting prenatal care maintain a culture of excellence with adequate delivery numbers.Assist in onboarding and support for new faculty providing maternity care.Coordinate and maintain ALSO course experiences, FHT tracing trainings, and other trainings for residents and facultyWork with residency director and educational leadership to optimize the educational quality of resident experience, evaluation of faculty and residents on OB and Peds and oversee resident compliance with work hour requirements.Assist in overseeing high quality sign-out processOversee the OB teach process, intern orientation, OB continuity experiences, C-section training experiences, procedural competency attainment for maternity care and pedsAssist and ensure resident training and compliance with Sky Lakes requirementsBe a source of support and mentoring for residents in maternity care trainingLead systems for resident evaluation of faculty and ensure that maternity care faculty receive timely and personalized feedback on OB-related teaching, professionalism, and maternity care and peds skillsetsMaintain participation by faculty in the curriculum and lead remediation and development efforts as identified by the faculty evaluation processWork collaboratively with the Residency Director, other associate directors, and the DFM in identifying faculty development needs pertinent to maternity care facultyFacilitate participation of residents in educational activities. This includes, but is not limited to coordination of orientation and intern assessments in collaboration with Education Associate Residency Director, inpatient didactics, and participation in appropriate interprofessional and multidisciplinary educational effortsMeet frequently with the residency director to review curriculum, resident and faculty performance assessments, staffing, and other needsCollaborate with faculty with an aim to support efforts for all three mission areas: scholarship, education, and serviceOther duties as assigned by the Chair, Vice Chairs, Klamath Falls Cascades East Residency Program DirectorThe duties of the Family Medicine Faculty Physician 0.75 FTE include:
Work collaboratively with full and part time faculty to maintain an active practiceThe Appointee will directly see patients in their clinic eight half days per week and have two half day’s available for administrative duties.Expectations for number of patients seen per half day will be commensurate with that of other faculty and with minimum target numbers of 8-10 visits per half day depending on complexity of the patient population.The Appointee will be expected to document using the electronic health record and maintain complete and timely patient care documentation consistent with OHSU and Cascade East Family Medicine Center and Sky Lakes Medical Center policies and procedures.The Appointee will be expected to participate in seeing patients during expanded access hours in the clinic, including their share of evenings and weekends, and call coverage. The Appointee will be expected to have a strong commitment to developing the practice into a vibrant clinical and academic operation, which is successful from both a professional and business perspective.Be available for teaching activities. Required Qualifications Previous leadership experience in a health care organization and experience or background with resident administration and/or accreditation preferred.D./D.O. degree or international equivalent, as well as graduate medical education in an ACGME accredited Family Medicine residency. Board certified in FM.Approved staff privileges at OHSU and Sky Lakes Medical Center.
