The Health Science Center (HSC) is looking for a Flow Cytometry Specialist to serve as a member of the IBT-Center for Translational Cancer Research team. The Flow Cytometry Specialist performs professional technical, administrative, and managerial research work; performs independent or supervisory roles in research activities requiring an advanced level of knowledge in a field of science or learning; and operates and maintains research equipment, trains and supervises graduate students and other lab/field personnel in using core facility equipment

Required Education and Experience
+ Bachelor's degree in a STEM-related field such as Biology, Chemistry, Biophysics or Biomedical Engineering
+ Four years of experience in flow cytometry and cell sorting techniques
Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
+ Familiarity with appropriate laboratory and/or technical equipment
+ Impeccable record keeping skills, attention to detail, and compatible with regulatory requirements
+ Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others
Preferred Qualifications
+ Master’s degree in related field with 4 years of flow cytometry research experience including significant experience working in an academic or clinical research flow cytometry core facility as a flow core operator, or appropriate
+ Doctorate degree
+ Experience with aseptic cell culture techniques
+ Experience in research project management
Responsibilities
+ Flow Cytometry Core Facility Operation: Assist all flow cytometry core facility users with their experimental flow analysis and cell sorting needs. Conduct daily and weekly maintenance and set-up of the FACSFusion cell sorter and the LSRII flow cytometer as needed. Follow specific flow core SOPs for running both instruments and have experience with basic trouble-shooting procedures. Have solid experience with FlowJo and iLab software for billing customers. Monitor and manage ordering of flow core facility reagents and supplies. Have aseptic tissue culture experience and basic experience with standard flow cytometry assays for conducting flow cytometry research assays as necessary. Responsible for biosafety compliance of flow core facility laboratories.
+ Data Collection and Management: Use computers and laboratory or technical equipment to perform data analysis, statistical analysis, compiling data and technical evaluation of research experiments and results. Maintain financial accounts related to flow core facility users. Prepares data for charts, figures, and manuscripts for papers, meetings, and for publication in journals. Prepare slides for presentations at scientific conferences and meetings. Document and interpret results to the principal investigator. Makes and records observations and measurements. Maintain a record of laboratory processes and findings in a detailed laboratory notebook.
+ Meetings and Collaboration: Participate in weekly lab meetings related to the flow cytometry core facility, and within the center as needed. Assist in the training and supervision of graduate students and other research lab personnel on the LSRII flow cytometer. Participate in joint projects involving the laboratory team.
+ Lab Resources Maintenance: Establish, install, maintain, operate and/or repair research equipment and stocks. Assist with ordering general lab supplies and equipment.
