Purpose of Role
The purpose of the Floor Assistant is to serve as a point person and assistant for the Shift Supervisor and Manager. This lead role is responsible for overseeing a set of plastic injection molding machines and performing various functions to ensure production runs smoothly and efficiently.
Areas of Accountabilities
Production Floor
Perform setup for production changes to ensure everything is in line with customer specifications. This includes setting up brand plates and hot stamping machines, performing color and material changes, verifying, and adjusting material blends. Perform work according to standards and verify that machine operators are following safety standards and product work instructions. Effectively perform machine operator duties on any machine, filling in as needed and during breaks.
Production Preparation
Start up and shut down all machines, water, air, and material systems in the work area. Troubleshoot basic machine and processing problems. Ensure work cells are stocked with all necessary components (wheels, etc.). Monitor alternative material usage and verify machines are running to standard cycles. Review work orders and prepare setup for oncoming shift.
Safety and Production Reporting
Lead all manufacturing safety initiatives in work area. Maintain and oversee cleanliness and organization of work area (5S). Properly complete all production paperwork. Perform end-of-day duties before the next shift takeover. May be asked to record scrap or other performance indicators.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
High School diploma or its equivalent. Previous experience as a team leader in a manufacturing environment. 2 yrs. previous injection molding experience preferred. Must pass forklift driving test and be able to safely operate daily. Need to be self-motivated and able to think independently. Must be able to effectively use Microsoft Excel, Word, & PowerPoint. Able to lift up to 40 lbs. Push/pull product, parts and supplies, etc. weighing up to 30 lbs. into and out of machines, conveyors, tables, etc. up to 50% of the time. Reach above shoulder level to access machine controls, parts and supplies, product, etc. up to 40% of the time.
