Fire Safety Coordinator

Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations._ **Responsibilities:** GENERAL PURPOSE: Provides assistance to the Fire Marshal and Fire Safety Specialists in the development and implementation of a University-wide fire safety program. Inspects, tests, and maintains existing fire protection equipment and systems for compliance with predetermined University and regulatory standards. Prepares and maintains routine and special reports on assigned activities. **ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS** + Tests existing fire protection equipment, such as smoke detectors, head detectors, pull station, audio/visual devices, voice evacuation, elevator recall, supervisory, etc., for compliance with predetermined University and regulatory standards as directed by Fire Safety Specialist or Fire Marshal. + Inspects and maintains fire extinguishers in accordance with local, state, and national codes and standards. Performs annual fire extinguisher inspections and coordinates the 6 year maintenance and 5 or 12 year hydrostatic vendor testing. + Tests existing fire protection equipment, such as standpipes, 2” main drain, wet/dry pipe sprinklers, pre-action, weekly and annual fire pumps, and hydrants, etc., for compliance with predetermined University and regulatory standards as directed by Fire Safety Specialist or Fire Marshal. + Performs monthly fire protection valve inspections and semi-annual testing of valve tampers. Performs quarterly fire department connection inspections. Performs monthly kitchen fixed system inspections and escort and supports the fixed system vendor inspection and testing of fixed systems. + Conducts fire detection or suppression systems disconnect and reconnect as directed by the Fire Safety Specialist or Fire Marshal. Prepares routine and special reports on assigned activities. Maintains computer files of tests, inspections and incidents, and equipment inventories. Maintains current familiarity with applicable codes and standards.
