The Fire Dispatcher Lead will be responsible for receiving emergency calls, assessing the situation, and dispatching the appropriate firefighting personnel and equipment to incidents on Ascension Island, often working in a remote and isolated environment, requiring proficiency in radio communication, computer aided dispatch systems, and a strong understanding of the island's unique geography and emergency response protocols.

This position is contingent upon successful contract award to V2X.
Responsibilities
Major Job Activities:
+ Receive emergency calls: Monitor radio frequencies and phone lines to receive fire and emergency calls from the public, base personnel, and other agencies.
+ Gather information: Quickly and accurately gather crucial details about the incident including location, nature of emergency, potential hazards, and number of people involved.
+ Prioritize calls: Determine the urgency of each call and prioritize accordingly based on established guidelines and the severity of the situation.
+ Dispatch units: Utilize a computer aided dispatch system (CAD) to dispatch appropriate firefighting units, including fire trucks, rescue vehicles, and specialized equipment based on the emergency.
+ Maintain communication: Communicate with responding fire crews throughout the incident, providing updates on the situation and coordinating additional resources if needed.
Material & Equipment Directly Used:
+ Standard Firefighting material and equipment.
Working Environment:
+ Remote location: This position is based on Ascension Island, a remote island in the Atlantic Ocean, which may require extended shifts and limited access to amenities.
+ Shift work: Expect to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays to provide continuous emergency response coverage.
Physical Activities:
+ High-pressure environment: The role involves managing emergency situations which can be stressful and require quick decision-making.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
+ Fire service dispatch certification.
+ Proven experience and certification in fire dispatch operations.
Experience:
+ Four (4) years of supervisory experience.
+ Strong communication skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively gather information, relay instructions, and maintain clear communication with responding crews.
+ Decision-making ability: Capability to make quick, accurate decisions under pressure to prioritize emergencies and dispatch appropriate resources.
+ Technical proficiency: Familiarity with computer aided dispatch systems, radio operation, and other relevant communication technologies.
Other Requirements:
+ Geographical knowledge: Thorough understanding of the layout and geography of Ascension Island to accurately locate incidents.
+ Emergency response procedures: Knowledge of standard emergency response procedures, including fire suppression tactics and incident command structure.
+ May require CPR certification.
