**_The schedule for this position could encompass various shifts, weekends, holidays, and times other than normal work schedules. The successful candidate must provide contact information to be used for an on-call phone listing for reporting to work in off hours or urgent situations such as extreme weather conditions including when the campus is closed._**
Responsibilities
+ Assist in the repair service to all Fire Alarm equipment on campus on a prompt basis (24/7). Ensure Fire Alarm and Fire Protection systems are code compliant in operation and maintenance.
+ Assist in the testing of Fire Alarm Systems on Campus on an annual schedule as required by NFPA and NYS and provide testing records to New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control (NYS OFPC). Relate all necessary scheduling pertaining to testing and service to all affected departments on campus. Adjust the schedule as needed. Create and respond to E-Mails from Building Managers, EHS, and Public Safety. Schedule third party inspectors and oversee inspectors during testing. Track and resolve system deficiencies.
+ Assist Project Managers with technical support, and contractor services involving installation and removal of Fire Alarm and Fire Protection equipment. Support EHS and Public Safety (especially PS Dispatch Fire Alarm monitoring systems) department needs involving Fire Alarm and Fire Protection systems.
+ Assist in the testing and service of Fire Protection Systems (Sprinkler and Suppression Systems i.e. Halon, FM200, CO2, etc.) in buildings, food service facilities, special collections, and process areas per NFPA and NYS OFPC requirements. Relate all necessary scheduling pertaining to testing and service to all affected departments on campus. Adjust the schedule as needed. Create and respond to E-Mails from Building Managers, EHS, and Public Safety. Schedule third party inspectors and oversee inspectors during testing. Track and resolve system deficiencies.
+ Test and service Fire Pumps on a weekly basis per NFPA and NYS OFPC.
+ Provide technical support and training to FMS Maintenance and Engineering departments in work involving Fire Alarm and Fire Protection systems.
+ Review plans and specifications for quality control pertaining to installations in new construction and renovation work.
+ Establish computer based store of information of Fire Alarm and Fire Protection equipment and installations including accurate records of equipment type, location, and operating/maintenance information.
+ Undergo all required safety and professional development training.

**Required Qualifications:**
Education & Experience
+ High School diploma or GED
+ Minimum 2-3 years of experience in Fire Alarm and Fire Protection system installation, testing, and servicing or equivalent training and course work.
Required Skills
+ Work independently with minimal supervision for contacting all levels of management within RIT to schedule and coordinate testing, repairs, and preventative maintenance of Fire Alarm and Fire Protection systems. Determine the path forward to resolve scheduling issues and system outages, make the needed testing/repair arrangements and notifications.
+ Experience with Fire Alarm equipment and demonstrate an understanding of sequence of operation for Fire Alarm Control Panels (FACP). Experience in operating, troubleshooting, analyzing, configuring, and commissioning Fire Alarm systems.
+ Must possess a high degree of proficiency with computerized equipment and control systems (Simplex Fire system environment (TSW), Siemens Fire System environment (NCC), and ALC WebCntl).
+ Work as needed in a larger group as part of a team depending on the work to be accomplished.
+ Must be able to utilize software applications including Microsoft Office, work order system, email, AutoCAD, and Photoshop.
+ Ability to use computer to access electronic drawings, Operating and Maintenance manuals, and other campus information.
+ Must be able to use meters to measure volts, amps, ohms, along with tools associated with electronic repairs (Hand tools, soldering tools, and power tools).
+ Job duties require walking between different buildings on campus and using a ladder to access equipment and working from a ladder to fix equipment, or kneeling and bending over equipment. Must have ability work from a 40 foot lift.
+ Must be able to distinguish colors of electrical wire insulation.
+ Consistently work safely following all relative OSHA, DEC and EPA standards, laws and regulations.
+ Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
+ Assist Commissioning team activities (retro-commissioning, new construction or renovation) with knowledge and support.
+ Maintain interfaces between FMS BAS Control systems and third party vendors for exchange of information and control points.
+ Must be responsible for managing relationships with customers and colleagues in an open, honest, direct and respectful manner.

The Fire Alarm System Technician II is part of the FMS Utilities Maintenance team that are responsible for the corrective and preventative maintenance of all interior and exterior electrical and fire alarm building components. The Fire Alarm System Technician II assists in maintaining all Fire Alarm and Fire Protection (Fire Sprinklers) Systems on Campus; scheduling and Test all Fire Alarm and Fire Protection Systems on Campus; providing technical support to Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), Public Safety, FMS Project Managers, FMS Operating Engineers, and Contractors; and document system design, installation, and sequence of operation.
