Finishing Shear Operator
General Statement of Duties:
Operate shearing machine and printer ensuring that carpet is properly sheared and labeled.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Operate printer ensuring that backing gets proper labeling, when necessary.
Adjust shearing line speed by observation of accumulator at rear of oven.
Monitor carpet for backing problems.
Monitor metal detector and shut down shearing line when detection occurs.
Inspect carpet for metal objects: pins, hooks, blades, etc.
On shearing machine: Check that fans are in operation.
Oil head felts every 1 to 1.5 hours.
Adjust heads by motor load %, and by ear.
Raise shearing heads while each seam passes through machine.
Raise heads and turn off fans when turning shearers.
Monitor and record exit temperature.
Monitor the face of carpet for high loops.
Clean nose bars before shearing.
Ensure that selvage remains flat.
Communicate with console operator on status of accumulator, and bow and skew.
*Assist in keeping work areas in a clean, orderly manner.
*Miscellaneous duties as required.
Physical Demands:
Frequently required to:
Stand, walk, bend, reach, handle, kneel, crouch, stoop, speak, write
Occasionally required to: Climb, balance, crawl
Vision Requirements:
Close vision
Occasionally required to lift: 25 Lbs.
Must be able to work 12 hour shift, either day or night, weekday or weekend as scheduled.
