PurposeReporting to the Assistant Controller, the Financial Reports Manager is responsible for overseeing a team of financial professionals involved in the daily, monthly, and end of year financial reporting work at the University of Texas. Actively responsible for the design and implementation of internal controls to ensure complete and accurate financial reporting and participates in the preparation and review of financial reports on behalf of the University.
ResponsibilitiesManages a team of financial professionals in the Office of Accounting involved in the financial reporting activities of the University. Hires, trains, develops, and manages performance of assigned staff.Assist with designing, documenting, maintaining, and implementing accounting policies, procedures and internal controls.Coordinates reporting with oversight entities, including UT System.Implements general accounting and reporting standards established by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) using Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).Assist with the management of monthly and fiscal year end accounting reporting processes, and other reporting required by UT System, Office of the Comptroller, federal, state, or other oversight entities.Assists in the preparation of the University’s annual financial report (AFR) and audited financial statements. May serve as a liaison with internal or external auditors. Ensures accuracy and compliance with reporting requirements at all times.Additional related duties as assigned.Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, or related fields.At least five years of experience performing accounting and financial reporting work, including preparing or reviewing financial statements.At least two years of experience performing supervisory responsibilities and leading a team. Years of experience may be concurrent as long as experience is demonstrated.Strong understanding of accounting standards (GASB, FASB, GAAP)Advanced skill in decision making, critical thinking, problem solving, communication, attention to detail, and analysis. To be successful in this role you must be self-driven with a commitment to accuracy and delivering results.Preferred QualificationsCertified Public Accountant (CPA) from the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy OR Master’s degree in accounting, business administration, or related fields.Experience in Higher Education or experience working for the state of Texas.Proficiency in DEFINE, Workday, or PeopleSoft applications a plus.Salary$125,000 annually
