Job Title: Financial Coordinator

Job Description

The Financial Coordinator's primary responsibility is to assist in tracking and documenting admission authorizations for transplant patients being admitted for evaluations, hospitalizations, and other admissions or outpatient procedures. The role involves acting as a liaison to Patient Financial Services-hospital and professional, third-party payors, and contracting. The Financial Coordinator is responsible for ensuring maximum coverage for patients and hospital reimbursement.

ResponsibilitiesObtain and assure timely and accurate receipt of prior financial authorizations for patients being admitted for transplant, hospitalizations, general surgery procedures, and other admissions related to transplant.Ensure that insurance coverage is available for aftercare, evaluated, and documented.Obtain benefits and prior financial authorizations for outpatient procedures by patients receiving services at the hospital, hospitalizations, general surgery procedures, and other admissions related to transplant.Initiate registration in SMS and IDX systems as necessary.Copy medical information from transplant charts and file authorizations and financial documentation in Financial Transplant.Meet with prospective patients and their families regarding insurance benefits, clarify the scope of insurance coverage as needed, assist with their application processes, and obtain other coverage.Consistently document all interactions with patients, families, and insurance carriers.Attend weekly financial clearance meetings with the transplant program team.Develop and maintain professional relationships with insurance carrier’s utilization review managers to complete authorizations in a timely manner.Track and maintain records of interactions with all physician consultants utilized by the transplant departments as necessary.Adhere to transplant policies and procedures related to financial clearance issues as set forth by sr. transplant financial coordinator and director of program. Coordinate these policies and procedures with those of Patient Financial Services.Contribute consistently to the development, implementation, and evaluation of departmental operations improvement.Continually maintain filing systems for Transplant financial documentation.QualificationsBachelors degree with 3+ years of experience, performing as a Financial Coordinator (required)Experience in financial charts and invoicing.Healthcare industry experience preferredProficiency in Windows-based office software, computers, and operating systems.Knowledge of medical terminology.Understanding of principles and practices of customer service and telephone courtesy.Basic mathematics skills.Competence in computer applications related to patient accounts processing.Ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines.Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information.Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing.Proficiency in Microsoft Office.Data entry skills.Work Environment

Onsite Monday-Friday in Palo Alto, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00
