Financial Coordinator + Job Number: 24529 + Functional Area: Administration + Department: Materials Science and Engineering + School Area: Engineering + Employment Type: Full-time (Hybrid) + Employment Category: Exempt + Visa Sponsorship Available: No + Schedule: Email a Friend Save Save Apply Now Posting Description FINANCIAL COORDINATOR, Materials Science and Engineering, will be responsible for general compliance of department and research accounts and serve as a key component of research operation; coordinate sponsored program and gift-related financial activities; perform diverse financial duties such as preparing, reviewing, and submitting budgets, reconciling and auditing monthly accounts, and preparing and analyzing financial reports for multiple accounts or projects; advise Principal Investigators, other faculty, researchers and staff on matters pertaining to research administration; escalate complex matters to management; coordinate the preparation, review, and submission of budgets or grants proposals, following appropriate policies and procedures; assist direct supervisor or faculty members with proposal development and submissions in accordance with MIT, sponsor, or donor policies; track and monitor the financial performance of grants and contracts to ensure compliance with MIT and sponsor policies and consistency with approved award budget; monitor and manage payroll distribution and salary distribution changes; monitor account balances for overruns and prepare accounts receivable invoices. Job Requirements REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years of finance or accounting experience; comfort with complex calculations and budgeting; intellectual curiosity, creative problem solving, and a continuous improvement mindset; demonstrated ability to meet short turn-around times; be a puzzle-solving professional who is able to multitask and perform hands-on work with a team; excellent organizational, interpersonal, analytical, and communications skills and attention to detail; proficiency in Microsoft Office applications especially Excel; and willingness to learn and adopt new software tools. PREFERRED: familiarity with federal research regulations, academic programs, and administration; and experience with SAP, Kuali Coeus, QuickBase and electronic proposal submission software.
