Financial Analyst - CCR PMO, Environmental Affairs

Please note: This is a hybrid work position and you will be required to be IN THE OFFICE @ 241 Ralph McGill Blvd, Atlanta, GA a Minimum of three (3) days per week and/or as required. 

** This posting is for 2 Financial Analyst positions – both will support the environmental compliance activities within the Georgia Power Company (GPC) Coal Combustion Residual (CCR) Asset Retirement Obligation (ARO) Program.

The Financial Analyst will support key stakeholders that work on GPC CCR ARO program. This could include monthly forecasting, change management, semi-annual budget submittals to the Public Service Commission, accruals, correcting entries and other related accounting and budgeting functions. 

Provide financial leadership and continued process improvement to ensure compliance costs are accurately stated and long-term needs are appropriately estimated.  Be a subject matter expert, act as a financial liaison, and provide leadership across the program. 

Major Role Responsibilities

Be a self-starter to identify gaps in documentation, training, and reporting. Assist in creating reports as needed to support financial analysis across the organization. Build strong working relationships with internal and external partners to develop the deep CCR program understanding necessary to draw conclusions and make recommendations. Analyze financial risks and opportunities and develop insights to influence the organization’s business decisions. Provide Budget Preparation and Financial Reporting  Financial analysis, guidance, reporting, & communication  Ensuring accurate accounting and reporting of financial information Making recommendations for allocation of resources and identification of cost savings opportunities Participate in the development of the semi-annual budget submittal with the assistance of key stakeholders Document key assumptions and quantities that support monthly forecasts and semi-annual budgets Ensure change management is completed accurately and timely Provide input to data requests and briefing cards as needed Participate in month-end closing processes which may include accruing costs, booking journals cost transfers, and completing variance analysis Provide guidance to employees on accounting, finance and compliance related issues Lead and/or manage special projects as required Occasional Travel and extended overnight stay for on and off system storm logistics and other business needs is required

Job Experience and Education 

Bachelor's Degree required. Accounting, Finance, Economics preferred. Basic understanding of GAAP and FASB  Preferred 1-5 years of Budgeting, Finance, Accounting or similar experience highly desired  Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative work setting

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 

Knowledge of financial and accounting principles and procedures  Familiarity with General Accounting Procedures and Corporate Guidelines  Demonstrates strong communication skills (oral and written) within a heavily cross functional project environment Working knowledge of financial management information systems and tools (PowerPlan, Oracle Planning, Oracle Projects, Oracle AP, Maximo, Contruent etc.)  Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in fast-paced environment Possess:  Strategic thinking and planning skills  Effective interpersonal and communication skills  Creative analytical and problem-solving skills  Demonstrated accounting and finance skill Excellent computer skills - especially Oracle Projects, Oracle Planning, Excel, PowerBi, Power Point, and Word
