Business Management is seeking a Financial Analyst to join the administrative team for the Macon and Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University (VHS).  The Financial Analyst reports to the Executive Director for Business Management and will be responsible for providing financial reconciliations and financial analysis for all assigned areas within VHS. This position works in collaboration with Department financial administrators and other leaders of VHS to ensure financials/budgets are aligned with the overall University’s financial goals and policies.

Responsibilities

General Summary


Reconciles grant expenses for billing to the ODU Research FoundationServes as liaison for requests between the University and the EVMS FoundationProvides analysis of departmental general funds, discretionary and endowment funds when neededAssists in financial analysis regarding projected changes in revenue and expendituresProvides support to the departments in monitoring and reconciling departmental expenses compared to budgetEnsures compliance with University financial and administrative policiesProvides training for others in budget related policies and proceduresFor small departments, serves as their financial supportAssists departments in the development of budgets and budget projectionsOther duties as assigned



Essential Job Functions


Develops and analyzes complex financial data and extracts and defines relevant information; interprets data for the purpose of determining past financial performance and/or to project a financial position, prepares written analyses and initiates invoices.Assists in the development of budget targets and budget projections for all types of budgets, including operating, endowment, gift, discretionary and sponsored grants and contracts.Confers with appropriate internal and external administrative offices to ensure that required budget policies and procedures are followed. Provides instructions and answers questions relating to budget proceduresMonitors monthly expenditures and revenues compared to budget and gathers supporting documentation. Analyzes significant discrepancies and prepares written summary documentAssists in the year-end closing process for VHS by creating and running both standard and ad-hoc reports, analyzing results and research any discrepancies. Resolves disputes by working with the individual departmental contacts and prepare written analysis of resolutionsInitiates cost transfers, budget changes and interdivisional charges.  Completes necessary documents and forms, applies appropriate codes and follows established processing proceduresLocates and complies information and formats reports, graphs, tables, records and other sources of informationMaintains records through filing, retrieval, retention, storage, compilation, updating and purgingHeavy use and extensive understanding of applications, such as Excel to assemble, manipulate and/or format data and/or reports. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or related fieldPrior experience with responsibility in finances/accountingProficiency in the use of software applications, databases, spreadsheets, and word processing.Additional education (master's in a related field) preferred, but not required.  Location : Location US-VA-Norfolk
