Meijer offers an 11-week internship program that challenges interns to deliver innovative solutions to real projects that impact the business. Throughout the course of the internship experience, we deliver diverse personal and professional development opportunities that further develop skillsets that can be implemented both during and after the program. The internship program will allow for interaction with other interns and Meijer senior leaders.

What you will be doing as a Finance Intern:

The internships will allow participants to gain a breadth of experience in the finance function of a retail enterprise, with focus on one of four possible areas:

Financial Planning, Reporting & Analysis and Corporate Accounting:

The Financial Planning, Reporting & Analysis and Corporate Accounting teams have responsibility for developing and providing appropriate reporting and information to control business operations. Responsibilities include:

Participation in financial scorecards, statistics and analysis that evaluate various strategic models and proposed business solutions.Providing cost accounting support for Meijer's growing manufacturing operations, including COGS and inventory valuation.Financial statement preparation and analysis.Analyzing current accounting processes while looking for ways to be more efficient and effective, including through the use of automation and/or artificial intelligence.

Capital Planning, Property Accounting & Treasury:

The Capital Planning, Property Accounting & Treasury team has responsibility for managing the company’s cash, investments, and fixed assets.  Responsibilities include:

Participation in capitalization and/or disposal of fixed assets, including land, buildings, equipment, software, and hardware.Research of appropriate accounting treatment related to fixed assets and property, as well as understanding the business impact of the selected treatment.Assisting with cash management and treasury functions, including research of cash deposits via armored car services, involvement in investment reconciliations, and participation in cash flow forecasting, both short term and long term.

Financial Operations:

The Financial Operations team is responsible for supporting and reporting financial transactions for our stores, supply chain and corporate offices to control business processes and operations.  Responsibilities include:

Processing and analyzing payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and customer transactions with electronic tenders such as debit and credit cards to ensure proper financial reporting.Reviewing transactional processes and analyzing workflows for efficiency and using automation tools to maximize accuracy and time savings.Supporting other Meijer business functions with imaging, travel, and mail services.

Qualifications:

The Meijer Internship Program is an experiential education program designed for students currently enrolled in a degree program, who are considering future careers in this exciting field.

Progress toward a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business (preference junior level candidate).Course completion in Financial Accounting prior to the internship is preferredProficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPointAttention to detailDrive for results - has focus on the bottom lineCustomer focus - dedicated to meeting expectations of internal and external customersRelationship Skills - can create positive working relationships with customers, team members, leadership, and other internal and external constituenciesCommunication Skills - conveys the right information in writing and verbally
