Position Overview:

Siemens Mobility is seeking a Field Service Engineer in San Diego, CA. The Field Service Engineer will plan, organize, coordinate and manage all phases of the maintenance activities of our SIEMENS CHARGER locomotives. You will be responsible for scheduling maintenance activities with our customer, training the maintenance personnel, and advising on best maintenance techniques. Setting a safe work environment and proactively supporting our customer in a professional manner are essential to the job. The Field Service Engineer will interact with the operational, engineering, dispatching and financial departments for the safe, cost effective and efficient operations of the railroad.

What your day-to-day will look like:

Maintain compliance to all applicable safety rules, laws, and regulationsAlways ensure highest quality standards are met in accordance with SiemensFoster a work environment that drives a safety first zero harm culture (ZHC)Follow all maintenance instructions (wherever available) to adhere to and maintain compliance and high-quality standardsDevelop a working relationship with the Customer as an employee and representative of Siemens MobilityVerify that all defects, tasks, and maintenance activities have been reported and documented in (CMMS) for compliance, issue tracking, and closure Interact with the leadership as needed on all site issues, systems, and related facility operationsEnsure the provision of high-quality technical advice to the maintenance workforce to enhance equipment reliability of a new locomotive fleet.Ensure responsiveness and support to completion any troubleshooting and repairs to assigned service requests. Non-conformance issues are identified, and improvement recommendations are made.Make good on the spot decisions and respond to locomotive failure issues by phone to assist customer in getting locomotive back in service whenever applicable Assist the local staff in assigned troubleshooting and repair worksActs as a mentor and provides on-the-job training to Technicians as required.Provide feedback to team regarding performance, quality, and productivity issues.Conduit to the field - conduct regular meetings with field personnel and managers to share company information, updates, etc.Work with 3rd parties, such as Cummins, to ensure proper operation of vendor components installed on the locomotive.Continually progress customers maintenance practices to support the Charger locomotive as intended by the manual.

To thrive in this role, you have:

HSD/GEDMinimum of 5 years of working experience with a railroad or other technical agency.Knowledge of Railroad Regulatory requirements.Knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures for supervised work group(s).Excellent English language technical communication skills in speaking, reading and writing. Possess proven skills with all Microsoft Office (including Excel/Word/Access/PowerPoint) productsComprehensive knowledge of Maintenance Management Systems such as Maximo, JD Edwards, SAP, CORMAP, SalesforceKnowledge of FRA regulations and guidelineSetting you apart from other would be an Associates degree or higher in an engineering discipline with 5+ years of experience managing field operations. A background or formal training in Quality tools e.g. six sigma would be helpful.  The ability to apply Standardization of processes to maximize consistency of output and increase efficiency and an aptitude to understand technical information are a plus.  Ideally you will have a background in rolling stock maintenance, commissioning or other rail related experience with an appreciation of mechanical and electrical engineering.

The actual salary/wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, and qualifications.
