Pay Range: $65000 - $85000 / year Position Summary Reporting to the Project Manager, Director, or designate, the Field Engineer oversees management and execution of their assigned areas of a construction project. Performs project management support and construction engineering duties in planning, organizing, budgeting and cost reporting, contract administration, ensuring fulfillment project requirements, promoting safety culture, conducting quality control and assurance, providing internal reports to the management team, and other tasks as assigned. Responsible for managing the flow of documents between internal and external partners, preparing project reports for the team and helping to coordinate teams’ participation in engineering and construction projects. Work closely with management and field teams to ensure that all materials/services/equipment needed for projects and inventory are recorded and acquired according to company guidelines and are delivered on schedule. Primary/Essential Responsibilities and Duties • Directs or participates in surveying for construction layout and establish reference points, grades, and elevations to guide construction • Interprets construction drawings, electrical drawings, specifications, and codes and provides planning for installation and provide support during installations • Review planning documents submitted by contractors or subcontractors to ensure compliance with specifications, schedules, and company standards • Manage onboarding for field operations and in-office required training • Enforcement agent for Drug and Alcohol policies • Manages equipment utilization documentation • Actively engages and promotes RailWorks safety policies, standards, and culture. Ensures that safety and quality control standards are always followed • Manages purchase orders, subcontracts, and work orders in JDE • Monitors project schedules and provides input for problem resolution and schedule revisions • Provides field verification of materials; investigates and/or tests specific construction materials to determine compliance to specifications or standards • Inspects project sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications and safety standards • Monitors subcontract activities to ensure materials, equipment and workmanship comply with design plans and specifications • Ensures that procurement provides timely delivery of materials and equipment to meet the construction schedule • Assists in preparation of bids, including assisting with take-offs, requests for pricing, project set up, quality control and other related tasks. • Submit bid requests to vendors to secure competitive material pricing for projects and yard inventory • Reviews, analyzes, and resolves field technical problems and discrepancies. • Advises the Project Manager of financial conflicts and problems and works with operations personal to resolve. • Analyzes permanent material requirements, solicits quotations, and prepares formal purchase agreements. • Develops requirements for specialized equipment and works with vendors to obtain customized equipment. Required Skills and Qualifications • A minimum of 1 year of construction industry engineering experience • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or Project Management; an advanced degree is a plus (In lieu of a degree, extensive experience in the military, railroad/construction, or related field will be considered) • Knowledge of all general contract and subcontract documents, drawings, specifications, and surveying instruments • Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions • Ability to read and comprehend plans and specifications, and to comprehend and recognize safety standards and issues • Ability to inspect materials and structures and to identify defects • Thorough knowledge of current industry quality standards • Ability to collect data, establish facts, define problems, and provide solutions • Experience with procurement processes, budgets and cost control methods • Strong verbal and written communication skills • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite. • Familiarity with Oracle, Sharepoint, PowerBI, and other online applications is preferred • Ability to multitask and work independently without direct supervision is required. • Ability to travel and work remotely from RailWorks base office when required. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions • Works outdoors at construction sites and indoors • Frequently stands, walks, climbs, balances, stoops, and crouches while negotiating work areas under construction • Sits, reads, writes, and uses a keyboard • May be exposed to harsh weather conditions including very hot and very cold weather • May be exposed to loud noise.
