Field Engineer
Job Title: Engineer
Job Description

The Engineer will perform moderately complex engineering detail and field work, ensuring work orders are complete and all requirements are met. This role involves selecting cost-effective and safe project designs and serving as the primary customer contact for assigned communities regarding new or changes to existing electric and/or gas systems. The Engineer may also train less experienced staff.

ResponsibilitiesHandle moderately complex customer inquiries involving company procedures and engineering detail using standard operating procedures.Work with the crew to communicate work orders and train crew members. May plan, schedule, assign, and review the work of crews.Plan work orders including as-builts, preparing estimates and work orders, preparing material lists, ensuring accuracy of sag calculations, switching/valve sequence planning, training, and writing accurate policies and procedures.Perform a variety of field work, including locating and sizing of services, load determination, distribution easements, staking, survey work of increasing difficulty, field checks, securing licenses, and completion of joint use applications while adhering to regulatory requirements.Track and report work-related functions necessary to support the business processes including creating work requests, CIS transactions, and establishing projects in work management, GIS/Mapping System, and various other systems.Provide technical support for work requests, resolve technical issues, and ensure crews understand work scope, detail, and structure.Work with hourly and salaried supervisors in scheduling work for others.Assist in community and customer relations as required, representing the company and participating in community activities.Interact with operations managers to identify resource requirements.Responsible for emergency response backup in assigned processes, including assessing risks and costs, determining labor resources, managing callout procedures, and monitoring performance measures for employees involved with emergency response.Stay current in knowledge and understanding of company procedures, rates, rules, practices, standards, and application of construction materials.Perform work under the general supervision of a Team Lead.Essential SkillsSolid working knowledge of applicable math and physics concepts and ability to apply them to the workplace.Demonstrated solid working knowledge of construction practices.Solid working knowledge of design and work packaging standards, federal/state regulations.Solid working knowledge of gas and electric codes, OSHA rules, and DOT requirements.Solid working knowledge of utility construction equipment, project management, and material procurement processes.Mechanical and survey and drafting skills.Ability to draw accurate and legible engineering-related maps.Advanced surveying and right-of-way knowledge.Good financial analysis knowledge.Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.Ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management); experience with STORMS and ArcFM software preferred.Switch qualified in electrical operations switching, gas operations, and gas emergency procedures.Additional Skills & QualificationsAssociate Degree preferred.5 years of related experience.Must possess a valid driver’s license.Willingness to travel, including occasional overnight stays.Primary residence must be within a reasonable distance of designated headquarters and within 40 minutes of an operating center in the responsible zone(s).Work Environment

The role involves traveling around the service area (approximately 40 miles) with some overnight travel. The Engineer will be in the field most of the time, working on new gas and electric services.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00
