FID, Municipal Securities, Lending and Structuring - Analyst / Associate

The Fixed Income Division (FID) is comprised of Interest Rate and Currency Products, Credit Products, Securitized Products, and Municipal Securities. Professionals in the Division assess and actively manage risk, trade securities, and structure as well as execute innovative transactions in the fast-paced and constantly changing global markets.

Municipal Lending and Structuring (“MLS”) leverages the full suite of sales, trading, banking, capital markets, structuring and lending services to provide tailored financial solutions for Morgan Stanley’s municipal issuer and global investor clients. Specifically encompassing structuring, lending and client financing, MLS uses expertise in direct commitment of capital, securitizations and derivatives to create products that solve bespoke client needs. We are looking for an Analyst or Associate to work with a variety of senior professionals and support the growth of our business.

The role offers a unique exposure to the municipal market in lending, investing, and structuring capacities with exposure to the full spectrum of products, sectors, issuers, and investors.You will work with Public Finance bankers, internal risk functions, issuers, investors, internal and external counsels, consultants, sales, trading, and capital markets professionals.

Primary Responsibilities:

· Provide the quantitative and analytical support necessary to develop and execute bespoke financing structures

· Perform day-to-day credit analysis, underwriting analysis, and due diligence for prospective or mandated transactions for first line approvals and ongoing portfolio management

· Help draft credit memos with credit recommendations, considerations, and overall credit summary for all new transactions

· Screen potential transactions for credit opportunities and considerations in partnership with the Firm’s credit risk management team

· Develop and participate in pitches to municipal and not-for-profit borrowers, as well as domestic and international institutional investors

· Work with internal and external legal counsel to ensure documentation accurately reflects business transaction terms and mitigates risk where appropriate

· Manage internal relationships with control groups to ensure appropriate risk management practices are in place

· Support various desk functions such as PnL, pipeline tracking, and business planning

· Minimum 1-2 years of experience in municipals (public finance banking, municipal capital markets, high yield municipal bond investment) or another applicable structured finance role

· Strong analytical and quantitative skills with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel with a strong preference for candidates with programming skills

· Familiarity with financial statement analysis

· Excellent communication and presentation skills - written and verbal

· Flexible, inquisitive, collaborative, attention to detail, analytical, self-starting, team oriented

· Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple high priority projects

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $110,000 and $125,000 per year for Analyst, and between $150,000 and $200,000 per year for Associate,at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
