Position Description

The available position is an Associate or Vice President level position within the Business Control Unit, specifically within the Fixed Income Division and focused on Credit Products, including Municipal Securities and Structured Products Group (“SPG”). The Business Control Unit within FID supports the Division by managing operational, regulatory and franchise risk through a comprehensive framework of policy setting, risk identification and control implementation in response to market, counterparty, regulatory, economic and other factors.


The individual will be required to work with various groups within the Municipal Securities and SPG businesses, such as Investment Bankers, Sales and Trading, COOs and senior management, as well as other areas of the broader Firm including Legal, Compliance, Technology, Operations, Finance and Audit. The individual will be responsible for supporting the implementation and execution of largescale processes and projects designed to identify and mitigate regulatory and/or operational risks across the Credit businesses.

Daily or regular tasks include the following:

· Establishing relationships and working closely with Municipal Securities and SPG Supervisors and Product COOs, Legal, Compliance, Technology, Operations, Operational Risk Department and other control groups

· Coordinating the review of new, complex and/or bespoke trade structures

· Coordinating the New Product Approval process

· Operational risk incident collection and reporting

· Developing and designing new controls processes within the first line of defense, in collaboration with second line risk groups

· Ensuring a standardized and consistent approach for the Division to adhere to risk management policies and procedures

· Representing FID in Firm-wide working groups and governance forums to assess how different initiatives impact the Municipal Securities and FSL businesses.

· Drafting or reviewing presentation material for consumption by senior management and/or regulators

· Engagement related to internal controls programs

· Involvement in various risk management projects

· Assisting with the coordination of regulatory exams and inquiries, Internal Audit, and business reviews

· Bachelor’s degree with strong academic performance and/or 3-5 years of relevant professional experience in Financial Services or related field

· Good knowledge of the Municipal Securities and collateralized loan products and businesses

· Good understanding of Franchise Risk, such as identifying, analyzing, and prioritizing regulatory and legal findings

· Self-starter with a positive outlook and desire to solve problems

· Strong analytical skills with an ability to understand complex workflows

· Proven ability to take ideas forward and to challenge others with integrity and maturity

· Ability to handle multiple tasks in a timely and effective manner and thrive in a fast-paced environment that lends itself to changing priorities and quick turnaround

· Strong communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing

· Ability to work collaboratively on group projects and independently on individual assignments

· Strong project management skills

· Exceptional organizational skills and a high degree of attention to detail

· Proficiency with Excel and other Microsoft applications such as Word and PowerPoint

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $85,000 and $140,000 for Associate, and $145,000 and $250,000 per year at the commencement of employment for Vice President. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
