Job Summary:
The Family Support Provider works closely with Community Support Specialists to address the needs of parents/caregivers of children with mental illness. By offering activities and creating a supportive network for parents and caregivers of children with emotional disorders, the Family Support Provider plays a key role in guiding the development of physical wellness plans and coaching participants on strategies for improved health. Ultimately, the Family Support Provider is instrumental in facilitating services for children and families in need.
Essential Job Functions:
Assist and coach families to increase their knowledge and awareness of their child's needs, building helpful relationships with child and family team members.
Provide materials such as videos, books, articles, or Internet resources, and offer moral support during crises.
Help with meeting preparations and participate in other activities as defined by the treatment team and family.
Contribute to individualized service plans that wrap services around the family's needs and participate in staffing for continuity of care.
Make or assist in outside referrals for issues not addressed within the treatment milieu.
Assist with intake processes and represent the agency professionally.
Document all services provided according to standards.
Provide crisis intervention when necessary and facilitate group education sessions.
Obtain training for professional development and participate in activities such as starting and sustaining mutual support groups, promoting recovery and resilience dialogues, teaching symptom and problem-solving skills, and supporting employment efforts.
Assist parents/caregivers in coping with a child with a serious emotional disturbance and use peer support to model resilience.
Offer individual or group services with an education and support focus, sharing lived experiences of recovery and promoting the use of recovery tools.
Help parents/caregivers recognize their capacity for resilience, connect with others in the community, and develop a network for support.
Assist in making independent choices and taking a proactive role in their child's treatment. Help identify strengths and resources for the child's recovery and set and achieve goals for themselves and their child.
Adhere to System policies and the Code of Conduct.
Demonstrate understanding of health service systems and assist program participants in securing resources for healthy living.
Conduct assessments to aid in developing individualized family plans.
Engage families in the wellness process, serve as a family advocate in agency and community settings, and facilitate wraparound meetings.
Become familiar with each family's plan, monitor progress, and provide support and coaching.
Identify available options for agencies to meet family needs and develop positive relationships with each family member.
Facilitate presentations on local resources and services, assist families in learning health management skills and self-advocacy, and monitor program participants' progress. Help team members with community resource connections and plan recreational and educational activities for collective wellness. Participate in organizational processes as directed by Leadership.
Serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team, supporting the development of the family plan based on individualized strengths, needs, abilities, and preferences of the family served; ensure implementation of family plan with assistance and support from team members and community resource providers.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of case management and rehabilitation methods, principles and techniques as they relate to mental health services.
Knowledge of the problems encountered by persons with mental illness and / or substance abuse disorders and how to access the various community resources available.
Knowledge of the methods and modalities as well as the legal requirements and court procedures related to treating mental illnesses and substance use discords.
Some knowledge of training techniques and practices used in a substance use disorders/ mental health setting.
Aptitude to evaluate services within assigned program and give input.
Capable of communicating ideas clearly and effectively verbally and in writing to produce clear and concise reports.
Shall be able to work with all persons with multiple challenges (mental illness, substance abuse, physical challenges, developmental disabilities, etc.).
Shall be able to establish effective relationships via telephone and personal contacts.
Experience and Education Qualifications:
A High School Diploma or GED is required
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Must meet the state qualifications required to obtain the Family Support Provider credential.

Employment Requirements:
Successful completion of background check including criminal record, driving record, abuse/neglect and fingerprint check.
Completion of New Hire Orientation at the beginning of employment.
All training requirements including Relias at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter.
Current driver’s license, acceptable driving record and current auto insurance.
First Aid certification within three (3) months of beginning employment and upon renewal date.
Obtain CPR certification within three (3) months of beginning employment and upon renewal date.
Behavioral Management training completed within thirty (30) days of employment or first available class after start date:
CPI for Residential programs
Peaceful Intervention or Verbal De-escalation for Outpatient programs
Staff is required to successfully complete 40 hours of prescribed classroom training with two (2) weeks following employment or demonstrate that they have previously received the certification training.
A valid driver's license, current auto insurance, reliable personal transportation and an acceptable driving record and are required.
Must have availability to work early evenings some days of the week, as needed, to provide access to families served.
Within the first year of employment, receive training on:
Signs and symptoms of disability related illnesses o Working with families and caretaker of clients receiving services
Rights, roles, and responsibilities of client and families
Client self-help skills
Individual treatment plans
Basic principle of assessment
Special needs and characteristics
Philosophy of community support approach
Suicide awareness/precaution

Physical Requirements:
ADA Consideration - Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (exists up the 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (exists 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, or pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Repetitive movements of hands, fingers, and arms for typing and/or writing during work shift.
Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
