Job Summary The College of Agricultural Sciences invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE ), 12-month, Faculty Research Assistant position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the School Head. The purpose of this position is to support the research, and service missions within the Tanguay Laboratory at Oregon State University. This role focuses on managing core research protocols, equipment maintenance, and technical operations while supporting/contributing to the preparation of scientific manuscripts, presentations, and grant applications. The position leads critical research initiatives including CRISPR protocol development and optimization, maintains essential laboratory infrastructure, and provides technical expertise for complex molecular assays. This position will collaborate with other technical staff to support research projects, train personnel on specialized equipment and protocols, and contribute to scientific writing and communication. This position is essential for maintaining the laboratory’s research capabilities, advancing scientific discoveries through molecular and genetic approaches, and disseminating research findings through publications and presentations. Key Responsibilities 65%-Conduct Research + Perform research activities and experiments using both embryonic and adult zebrafish + Lead CRISPR protocol development and optimization and maintain genetic lines in the facility + Oversee and execute complex molecular assays including melt curve analysis, Taqman assays, and PCR , and nucleic acid isolation + Develop and maintain detailed documentation for all molecular protocols + Assist in grant application preparation and progress reports + Design and execute experiments 15%–Lead Work and Training + Train undergraduate student workers, graduate students, visiting scholars and temporary workers on molecular biology techniques + Plan, assign, and approve work for student employees + Provide instruction in executing experiments using manual and automated instrumentation + Ensure compliance with established SOPs and safety protocols + Instruct on lab safety and general lab bench techniques + Foster a collaborative and inclusive research environment for Faculty, staff, and students. 10%-General Lab Management + Assist with general lab tasks and zebrafish husbandry related task + Purchase and maintain laboratory instruments + Purchase and maintain inventory of lab supplies, consumables, general equipment and reagents needed for lab + Maintain and enforce and manage safety protocols and guidelines 10%-Publications and Scholarly Activity + Assist PI in scholarly pursuits + Present findings at scientific conferences + Conduct literature searches + Draw conclusions from analyses + Contribute to scientific manuscripts What You Will Need + Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, genetics, toxicology or related discipline + Demonstrated experience with molecular biology methods including nucleic acid extractions, PCR , and gel electrophoresis + Experience with maintaining detailed laboratory records and protocols + Demonstrated experience with laboratory organization and management at the technical level + Experience with health and safety compliance procedures in laboratory settings + Experience mentoring and successfully working in a team environment + Must be able to lift items weighing up to 20 lbs + Good communication and collaborative skills + Commitment to foster a collaborative and inclusive research environment for faculty, staff, and students. This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq.
