This position is part of the Maryland Consumer Health Information Hub team in the UMD Horowitz Center for Health Literacy Please see the Horowitz Center website for information about the Center the Hub and its activities and the authorizing legislation The Community Health Worker CHW will represent the Hub to Maryland CHWs and organizations and support them in finding and distributing plain language and language accessible health safety social services and health insurance information The CWH will identify the information to be shared in collaboration with other Hub team members This position has a primary and secondary purpose The primary purpose is to build relationships with individual CHWs CHW groups associations and employers to educate them about health literacy and help them distribute multi lingual plain language health safety social services and health insurance information The CHW will promote the Hub information collection provide feedback on informational materials in the collection and identify new materials to add The CHW will work closely with the Hub team to plan and implement these activities The secondary purpose of this position is to deliver consumerpatient focused presentations on how to search for and evaluate the quality and suitability of health information and services These presentations may be in person virtual and hybrid and will likely happen in close coordination with CHWs and Hub partner organizations The CHW will build on existing Hub resources and work with Hub team members and partner organizations to customize presentations for different public audiences Duties Participate in team meetings and coordinate with Hub team members Participate in 1 2 annual in person Hub convenings Inform supervisors of partnerships work products deadlines and roadblocks or challenges Contribute to Hub tracking and reports Identify and build relationships with CHWs CHW groups associations and employers that the Hub can partner with Train CHWs in health literacy skills and how to use the Hubs collection of multilingual plain language health safety insurance and social services benefits information from partner organizations Provide feedback on Hub informational materials and suggest new materials to add to the Hub collection Deliver in person virtual and hybrid consumerpatient focused presentations on how to search for and evaluate the quality and suitability of health information and services Other duties as assigned Status Hourly July 1 2024 to June 30 2025 renewal available based on performance Hourly rate 3000 Possible funding for up to 2 years Reporting This position reports to Dr Catherine Maybury Maryland Consumer Health Information Hub Coordinator Locationwork environment 10 15 hours per week In the field attending community events Online connecting by email phone and videoconferencing with Community Health Workers CHWs and organizations Weekly team meeting can attend virtually or in person at UMD School of Public Health College Park MD The CHW may be based in any county in Maryland Must have valid drivers license to drive to in person meetings events and fieldwork sites in Maryland
