Responsibilities Perform safety support work that involves obtaining and providing factual information about safety Perform routine inspections and investigations Look for and report unsafe conditions and findings Make recommendations for improvement Monitor and maintain the material safety data sheets (MSDS) Conduct regular Facility safety committee meetings Prepare and conduct safety orientation training presentations Assist with public outreach and education support activities for the Facility Plan educational and public outreach Provide support and assistance to community volunteers Requirements Conditions of Employment You must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National. To qualify at the GS-06, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-05 level in federal service. Specialized experience must include at least four (4) of the following: Maintain stock of office and safety supplies, such as safety glasses, cleaners, etc. Perform routine chemical inventories and ensure that safety data sheets are maintained and readily accessible when needed Schedule and assist in conducting routine safety assessments and inspections to identify potential hazards and collaborate with other staff to address safety concerns, provide solutions, and implement improvements Performing clerical/administrative duties in an office environment Greet, assist, and handle access for public visitors, government contractors, and facility researchers Perform and coordinate educational and other public outreach (this can include customer service, food service, and other types of jobs with public interactions) Manage and maintain the office's organizational systems, ensuring that all records, files, and supplies are accurate and up-to-date Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Time-In-Grade: Current career or career-conditional employees of the Federal government, or former career or career-conditional employees, who have a break in service of less than one year, are required to meet the time-in-grade restriction of one year of Federal experience at the next lower-grade, with few exceptions outlined in 5 CFR 300.603(b). You must meet all Eligibility and Qualification requirements, including time-in-grade restrictions and any selective placement factors if applicable, by 10/14/2024. Education This position does not allow substituting education for experience. Additional Information This position is part of the team at Reclamation's Brackish Groundwater National Desalination Research Facility (BGNDRF). The BGNDRF staff support a wide range of researchers from government, universities, private companies, research organizations, and state and local agencies. Staff have the opportunity to host events such as the Desal Prize, which was a competition geared to encourage renewable energy powered desalination systems, and Discovering Desal, where local elementary students learn about water quality and desalination. You may be required to serve an initial probationary period. Reclamation has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and you may be allowed to telework with supervisory approval.
