Job Summary
The Facilities Safety Specialist, reporting to the EHRS Occupational Safety Officer (OSO), will implement and manage safety programs and training tailored to Facilities Management Operations & Maintenance. These safety programs will be established with the OSO, the Director of EHRS, and the Associate Vice President of Facilities Management. Programs may include but are not limited to, hearing conservation, respiratory protection, construction and shop safety, occupational ergonomics, Lockout/Tagout, confined space entry, job safety analyses, electrical safety, and fall protection. In coordination with the OSO, the Facilities Safety Specialist will work closely with stakeholders in Facilities Management and contractors to ensure compliance with Temple University requirements and applicable standards, including OSHA, EPA, DEP, ANSI, NIOSH, and industry best practices.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Required Education and Experience
* A bachelor’s degree in a related field of safety, industrial hygiene, construction management or science.
* At least four (4) years’ related work experience is required.
* An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Required Skills and Abilities
* Demonstrated computer skills and proficiency with MS Office Suite programs.
* Demonstrated strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
* Strong project management skills, including scheduling and recordkeeping, and strong attention to detail.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills including listening skills, with the ability to deliver group and one-on-one training sessions.
* Exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills, including the ability to interact with a diverse stakeholder population.
* Demonstrated ability to prioritize well and focus on the completion of tasks while under the stress of a demanding work schedule.
* Must have the ability to drive a motor vehicle and have a valid United States driver's license or the ability to obtain one.
Preferred
* Five (5) years’ related work experience is preferred. Work experience in construction safety, industrial hygiene, building trades, occupational health and safety or related field is a plus.
* Applicable professional certification (CIH, ASP, CSP) a plus.
