Facilities Electrician Apprentice

As a Facilities Electrician Apprentice, you will work with other facility personnel to perform preventative and routine maintenance tasks on electrical equipment and devices on the facility to support company needs. This may include troubleshooting issues, repairing failures, and ensuring maximum equipment efficiency. The Facilities Electrician Apprentice will report to the Facilities Manager.

Summary:

Founded by legendary aircraft designer Burt Rutan, Scaled Composites is a 42-year-old aerospace company continually working to push boundaries, prove out ideas, and influence the future. We are a rapid prototyping and manufacturing facility, designing, building, and testing proof-of-concept and prototype vehicles. We have flown an average of one new aircraft type per year over our 42-year history such as Proteus, GlobalFlyer, SpaceShipOne, Model 401, and Stratolaunch. 

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Inspecting and maintaining electrical equipment, devices, and circuits of any voltage.Use of common tools, materials, equipment, and apply both new and proven methods to inspect, install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.Troubleshooting and repairing electrical failures.Ensuring maximum efficiency of all electrical equipment.Completing work and tasks in a timely manner while paying close attention to all details.Identifying safety issues and working with EH&S personnel to take corrective action as needed.Effectively managing time by appropriately prioritizing work.Working cooperatively with coworkers and customers as needed to accomplish work goals and tasks.

 

Required Qualifications:

At least 1-2 years of recent, full-time, paid experience in the electrical trade.Ability to read and interpret documents and drawings and write detailed reports.Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to follow general and detailed instructions.Knowledge of common tools, materials, equipment and methods used in the electrical trade.Proficiency with basic office computer software and the ability to learn how to effectively use maintenance software to input data and research parts.Knowledge of city, state, and federal safety guidelines .Post-secondary education and/or technical trade certificate (preferred).

 

Essential Functions:

Occasional lifting up to 50+ lbs., with assistance.Standing 90% of the day. Required to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment for an assigned task. Occasional carrying, pushing, and/or pulling materials weighing up to 30 pounds. Manual dexterity and coordination are required; repetitive hand motions.Work on varied work surfaces/environments, including but not limited to working in a busy shop environment, cold room, or in/on aircraft structures including raised platforms including but not limited to ladders, scaffolding, and stairs. Work may be performed inside or outside of buildings. May be exposed to changing weather conditions (i.e., article or aircraft testing operations). Must be able to pass and maintain ‘pass’ status on OSHA-approved Pulmonary Fitness Test (PFT) in order to wear a respirator for prolonged periods of time. May be asked to carry up to 20 lbs. up and down a flight of stairs on a regular basis. Occasional reaching overhead and lifting up to 15 pounds.Ability to converse and communicate information with others.Occasional exposure to chemical vapors and/or fumes in low non-hazardous concentration. Potential to climb up and down steps on a daily basis. Must be able to read and understand SDS.
