Fabrication QA Supervisor
Purpose: The Fabrication Quality Assurance Supervisor is responsible for the development, implementation, and surveillance of the Quality Management System in their area of responsibility. Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Quality Assurance Department for the Fab shop operations at Colonna’s Shipyard and its subsidiaries as required. The position is located onsite in Norfolk, VA and will often require hours beyond a standard work week, to include evenings and weekends as needed. Position may require limited travel. Job Description: Ensure Quality Management System (QMS) is implemented, maintained and initiate revisions when needed. Oversee Quality Assurance Department’s day-to-day operations for their area of responsibility. Coordinate and schedule internal inspections (workmanship and NDT). Interface with Customer/Government/Third Party inspectors to accomplish contract required inspections. Generate reports of conditions found during inspection activities, notify production, Supervisors and Quality Assurance/Quality Control management of significant problems, completes documentation necessary to attest to satisfactory completion of inspection or test activities. Compile final inspection records into a package for submission to customers as required. May conduct, witness and/or document in-process inspections. Train and maintain an adequate number of Quality Assurance personnel as required by Quality Plans, Procedures, Work Instructions, Contracts and/or Customer requirements. Provide QMS Training for new and existing employees as needed. Represents the organization at Quality functions both internal & external. Schedules internal audits and assign auditors to perform scheduled audits and/or surveillances. Maintain documents, records and audit data as required. Prepares the Quality Assurance Department to meet external certification or customer audit requirements. Holds Quality Assurance Department meetings to discuss Quality subjects as needed. Assist in preparing material, information and/or documents needed by upper management. Qualifications: Must have at least five (5) years’ experience in ship repair, manufacturing, machining, engineering services or technical field, which includes 4 years performing in a role with quality or operational related responsibilities. Must have knowledge of NAVSEA, NAVFAC, AISC, HII/NNS, AWS, ASME, and ABS. Must have knowledge of quality techniques and systems, including quality specifications and/or advanced quality systems. Must be knowledgeable on ISO 9001 Standards. Must be able to lead effective corrective action using disciplined problem-solving methods and statistical analysis. Must have excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills. Must have strong computer skills including Microsoft Office products. Preferred Qualifications: ISO 9001 Lead Auditor certification preferred. Related Department of Defense experience including direct experience with government customer relations strongly preferred. Previous experience at Colonna’s highly preferred. Security Requirements: Must be able to obtain and maintain access to government installations (DBIDS). Travel Requirements: Occasional Travel; 10% or less. Physical Requirements: Sit, Stand, Walk, Bend, Squat, Climb, Reach, Push and Pull, Stoop, Crawl, Kneel, Balance, Lift and Carry various objects and equipment. General shipyard/industrial environment. Work has physical demands that require frequent movement up to 50% of the time. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there is frequent exposure to hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Hear, talk, and smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Work is performed in both an office environment and a maintenance and industrial environment with standard office equipment available but also requires safe navigation and regular partnership with operations teams within shipyard/industrial environments. A considerable amount of time is spent operating a personal computer. Must be able to climb up and down stairs and spend time moving throughout the facility and onboard marine vessels.
