Extruder Operator

Job Description:

The Extruder/Extrusion Operator is responsible and accountable for assuring all formulas are manufactured according to Q&FS specifications and QMP standards in support of the Company's Quality and Food Safety principles.

Principal Accountabilities

Is the main point of contact for all resources in the processing area of the plantCoordinates all processing area activities and a safe, food safe, and efficient manner in alignment with shift, area, and plant goalsPerforms all assigned activities and job tasks within a line or areaOperates equipment in a safe and efficient mannerTakes corrective actions in solving problems to root cause levelAssess equipment operating reliability and perform routine repairs, adjustments, and malfunction troubleshootingPerforms and/or works with Maintenance to complete equipment preventive maintenanceMaintains accurate records of QC checks, production numbers or waste performancePerforms all shift support documentation in a quality matterPerforms QC tasks such as magnet checks, inspection of date codes, item numbers, dump logs, equipment attributes, all extruder and dryer system process control checks, etc.Demonstrates high degree of ownership for product quality: Performs all standard quality checks & other quality related dutiesUnderstands production schedules, production computer systems, work instructions and production inventoriesAll associates are responsible for the safety, quality, and food safety in their work areaDemonstrate a quality culture in actions, words, and spiritPerform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management


Functional Accountabilities

Assure the process equipment and all supporting processes are in compliance with Q&FS, QMP, and performance objectives at the following process flow points. This is subject to change based on operational requirements: Conditioning, Extrusion, Drying and CoatingQ&FS Testing EquipmentOther duties and responsibilities as assignedKey Functional Skills/KnowledgeTeam player, Action oriented, Problem-solving abilities, Strong communication skills and Continuous self-developmentMust be capable of working at elevated heights and or confined spaceWearing proper personal protective equipment (bump cap, ear plugs, safety shoes, and uniform)Bending, stooping, twist, turn, standing for extended time periods, reaching, climbing stairs, and lifting up to 50 lbs.Must be able to adapt to temperature and environmental extremes such as hot to cold, dust dirt and chemicalsKnowledge of local, federal, and industry regulations with regards to: Food Safety (GMP, HACCP), Food Quality (Product and Process)Q&FS testing practices and procedures, QMP polices, and SPC


Minimum Qualifications:

Be 18 years of age or olderHave a high school diploma, GED or equivalent educationMust be willing and able to work and accept varying shifts and schedulesAbility to understand and effectively communicate in the English languageWorking knowledge of Safety, Quality and Material Management Systems and proceduresAbility to read and understand the daily production run schedule, and execute to that planAbility to communicate to managers and team members any production, quality/food safety or other business critical information vital to operations and customer serviceMust be willing and able to work and accept varying shifts and schedulesAbility to understand and effectively communicate in the English languageSuccessful completion of a substance screening and background check


Preferred Qualifications:

3+ years of manufacturing experience operating a variety of machines2 years of work experience within manufacturing, or a technical and/or trade disciplineWorking Knowledge of food safety, GMP, GHOP, HACCP, SPCDemonstrated competency in computer and pc software including MS Office and emailKnowledge of inventory control principlesAbility to operate a forklift/OSHA certificationPrevious Extruding operations
