Role Purpose

The Head of External Communications and Business Manager will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing the external communication strategies of the company. This role is responsible for managing corporate communications, public relations, and external affairs to enhance the company's reputation and support its business objectives. Additionally, the role includes business management responsibilities to drive strategic initiatives and ensure effective operational execution.

Key Responsibilities: 1. External Communications:

Develop and implement comprehensive corporate communication strategies that align with business objectives and enhance the company's brand reputation, focusing on citizenship, customer experience, national contribution, and positioning Vodafone as the responsible telco. Deliver communications to maximize Vodafone’s share of voice and drive the reputation goals set by Group (RepTrak 70), particularly the ability to influence non-customers, potential employees, and policymakers. Oversee all external communications, including media relations, crisis management, and stakeholder engagement, working closely with public affairs and policy colleagues. Manage relationships with key stakeholders, including media, lobby, and industry groups. Prepare and deliver executive-level reports and presentations on communication strategies and outcomes, including leading the Reputation Steering Committee of the SLT. Monitor and analyze media coverage and political and public opinion to inform communication strategies and responses and identify emerging opportunities. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards in all communication activities. Oversee all external communications, including media relations, public affairs, crisis management, and stakeholder engagement. Build strong working relationships throughout the organization to ensure opportunities are identified and maximized. Collaborate with internal departments to ensure consistent messaging and alignment of communication efforts, and to generate news flow and content. Develop and manage communication budgets, ensuring cost-effective use of resources. Work closely with the leadership team to operationalize strategic initiatives. Ensure the delivery of impact objectives in a timely manner.

2. Business Management:

Drive strategic initiatives for External Affairs, supporting the External Affairs Director and cross-departmental collaboration, driving impactful initiatives and cross-functional ways of working. Monitor the performance of EA KPIs to drive continuous improvement. Collaborate with internal departments to ensure consistent messaging and alignment of project delivery. Support the team with digitalization and department efficiency. Develop and manage communication budgets, ensuring cost-effective use of resources. Prepare and deliver executive-level reports and presentations on communication strategies and outcomes.

3. Leadership and Team Management:

Lead a team of communications professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance management. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence within the team. Build strong working relationships throughout the organization to identify and maximize opportunities. Bring external perspectives to the work of the EA&L business unit.

We are looking for you, if you have:

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in corporate communications, public relations, or external affairs, with a proven track record of success in a range of sectors • Experience in crisis communication and issues management, with the ability to navigate complex and high-pressure situations. • Strong relationships with media and key stakeholders, and the ability to cultivate and maintain these relationships. • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling messages for diverse audiences. • Proven ability to develop and implement strategic communication plans that achieve business objectives. • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines, and to deliver impact cost-effectively • High level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality. • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire, motivate, and mentor others. • Proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint, with the ability to interpret data including financial reports. C2 General • Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and departments, fostering collaboration and achieving shared goals. • Resilience and high degree of comfort with change and ambiguity. • An appreciation of regulated environments.
