As Executive Office Senior Communicator for Resource Industries (RI), you will lead the global RI communications team of approximately 20 professionals in the development and implementation of strategic communications for the RI business segment. Reporting to the Head of Executive Communications and directly supporting the Group President for RI, you will be a vital member of the Enterprise Communications team and a trusted advisor on a wide range of messaging that directly impacts Caterpillar’s reputation. 

In this role, you will provide strategic communications counsel and execution of an internal and external communications strategy to support the business and RI Group President, including the highly visible and critical initiatives around services, autonomy and electrification.   

 

This position is an advisor to the division’s senior leadership team on communications, organizational change management and strategic initiatives. The position orchestrates Lean communications and process excellence across RI to enable quick, effective, and high-quality communications to all relevant audiences.   

 

What You Will Do:  

Supervise a team of 20+ communications professionals

Attend significant meetings for, and at times travel with, the officer to develop a keen understanding of the strategic elements of the business, and the business challenges

Proactively create and execute the communication strategy for RI, and specifically the Group President 

Manage multiple, complex, high-pressure assignments under tight deadlines with complete accuracy and the highest quality 

Coach and mentor senior leadership on effective communication strategy development and delivery  

Craft written materials for stakeholders, often on complex topics, to diverse, global audiences. Stakeholders include but are not limited to employees, media, investors, dealers, customers, suppliers and government officials  

Understand communication objectives for various audiences, including investors, production workforce – bargained and non-bargained- - high-tech talent, early career professionals and experienced hires

Provide leadership and collaboration on communication initiatives to the business divisions within RI. Work closely with all senior vice president communicators for communication planning synergies

Actively seek internal and external opportunities (e.g. social media, conferences) to reinforce key strategic messages 

What You Have:  

Planning: Expert-level knowledge of effective planning techniques and ability to contribute to operational (short-term), tactical (1-2 years) and strategic (3-5 years) planning in support of the overall business plan. Strong project management skills with the ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously while paying close attention to details 

Communicating Complex Concepts: Expert-level knowledge of effective presentation tools and techniques to ensure clear understanding; ability to use summarization and simplification techniques to explain complex technical concepts in simple, clear language appropriate to the audience. Hands-on experience developing and executing a strategic communication plan reflective of the core business objectives and leveraging multiple communication channels to reach desired audiences, including social media, media and customer events 

Influencing: Expert-level knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to impact decisions within and outside one's own organization. Demonstrates an enterprise mindset when working through a matrixed organization. Proven ability to lead outside vendors and internal business partners

Interpersonal Relationships: Extensive knowledge of the techniques and the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive, diplomatic and collaborative manner. Establishes and maintains credibility with clients and teammates throughout various  

Top Candidates Will Also Have: 

Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field  

10 or more years of progressive communications experience

Experience managing teams

The primary location for this position is Irving, TX 

Domestic relocation assistance is available for those who qualify

Summary Pay Range:

$156,000.00 - $234,000.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
