Purpose:

The Executive Director of Student Support is a critical member of the leadership team for the Office of the Dean of Students. The Support portfolio encompasses non-clinical case management, basic needs including the UT Outpost, and transition programs such as First Gen and Horns Helping Horns. In addition, this position oversees crisis response for student concerns.

The support portfolio has a robust staff, including 1 Senior Associate Director and 2 Associate Directors, as well as case management and basic need teams. Under the Executive Director’s leadership, this portfolio provides a variety of support services to ensure students are retained at the university regardless of a situation or crisis.

Duties:Oversee all support initiatives for the Office of the Dean of Students, including Student Outreach and Support, Basic Needs, and First Gen Initiative.Recruit, supervise, develop and evaluate staff in the support area, including direct supervision of the Senior Associate Director of Student Outreach and Support, Associate Director of Basic Needs, and Associate Director of First-Gen.Serve as the co-chair for the Behavior Assessment Team and provide leadership to the campus community regarding behavior intervention.Coordinate the budget development and provide financial oversight for the support portfolio. Steward development/grant funded programs, services, and resources. Provide leadership to enhance development and fundraising strategies.Serve as a member of the department leadership team. Assist in leading special assignments within the University, Office of the Dean of Students, and the Division of Student Affairs. Participate on University committees representing the Office of the Dean of Students.

Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education, or a related field. At least 10 years of relevant experience. Experience supervising professional staff. Knowledge of federal and state laws, and University policy. Experience in crisis management and/or basic needs programming. Experience conducting planning and assessment activities. Excellent communication skills with the ability to acquire information/ideas from others. Ability to collaborate and share resources based on programmatic needs. Demonstrated ability to factor functional concerns/needs into strategy. Capability to delegate functional tasks to direct reports and engages others in achieving strategic initiatives. Experience managing a budget or advising on finances. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, administration, and external stakeholders. Possess effective facilitation skills, strong attention to detail, and have success managing concurrent tasks. Professional demeanor and ability to maintain sensitive information. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills including presentations, written correspondence, and reports. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications:

Terminal degree in student affairs, higher education, or a related field. More than 10 years direct experience in case management, crisis response, first-gen programming, or basic needs. Experience at a large, public institution. Demonstrated work with and understanding of reputational and financial risks. Experience building partnerships and collaborating across departments. Experience supervising Associate Director or Director level staff. 

Salary Range
$135,000

Employment Eligibility:

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
