Executive Director of Integrated Communications

The University of Maine is seeking an experienced and visionary strategic communications leader to serve as the Executive Director of Integrated Communications (EDIC). This role supports both the University of Maine and its regional campus, the University of Maine at Machias.
As a senior leader within the Division of Marketing and Communications, the EDIC is responsible for guiding four interrelated areas: strategic communications, news and media relations, executive communications, and research communications. Reporting to the Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, the EDIC collaborates with the Executive Director of Integrated Marketing to advance strategic messaging, enhance the university’s brand and visibility, and support institutional goals. Additionally, the EDIC advises the university president and her leadership team, leads the coordination and execution of her strategic communications plan, and serves as the university’s primary spokesperson with news media and the general public. Typical hiring range for this position is $125,000 to $137,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications:
Required:
+ Education: A bachelor’s degree in journalism, communication, public relations, marketing, or a related field.
+ Experience: At least six years of leadership experience in integrated communications, media relations, public relations, executive communications, and strategic content planning, ideally in a higher education or similarly complex environment.
+ Expertise: Strong knowledge of strategic communication concepts, principles, methodologies, and techniques.
+ Communication Skills: Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with proven experience in writing and editing executive-level communications for a wide range of audiences.
+ Crisis and Deadline Management: Demonstrated ability to manage crisis communications and perform under tight deadlines.
+ Team Management: Proven leadership in managing cross-functional teams, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
+ Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with media monitoring tools, digital content management systems, and social media platforms.
