This position is a communications leader reporting to the Vice President, Corporate Communications and directly supporting the organization-s business strategy and key business priorities. The position provides counsel to National Executive team, leads multiple teams, and manages complicated, sensitive, and rapidly changing internal and external communications strategies and tactics on a wide range of internal and external topics that impact Kaiser Permanente-s reputation and brand. This individual works directly and closely with the highest levels of senior management and partners across every major part of the organization, to provide counsel and ensure the successful completion of communications strategies and tactics to shape and integrate communications and alignment with Kaiser Permanente-s mission, vision, values, brand, and reputation. This position also works closely with external partners, agencies, and stakeholders. This position also serves as a back-up and a deputy to the VP, Corporate Communications and will be a member of the national communications leadership team. Multiple communication teams report to this position, including Finance & Treasury Communications, Enterprise Business Services Communications, and Information Technology and Digital Communications. These teams are broadly responsible for developing national communications strategies for finance-related topics, business operations, and IT/digital services. This encompasses annual and quarterly financials, facilities operations and clinical technology, IT infrastructure, digital products and AI, cybersecurity and corporate risk management, physical security, business optimization and revenue management, and supply chain management. Their work supports over 224,000 employees, 25,000 physicians, and millions of consumers. The teams create tools, content, and collateral for various internal and external audiences, utilizing a mix of channels both nationally and by markets, depending on the initiative, program, or national function. Starting with an enterprise approach, the work is then tailored and deployed within markets as appropriate. This position ensures efficient, consistent, and effective integration with the markets. Finance & Treasury Communications: A director (also accountable for EBS), and one communications consultant responsible for communications consultation and developing internal/external communications strategies, messages, and tactics in support of a broad range of complex and far-reaching finance-related communications, thought leadership, and business strategies, including annual and quarterly financials, revenue management, market and regulatory communications, Medicare & Medicaid strategy, pensions & investments, corporate risk management, strategic delivery system strategy, planning, & design, impact investments, labor economics, cost structure improvement, tax, actuary & audit services, corporate controller & accounting, and risk adjustment & data analytics.Enterprise Business Services Communications: A director (also accountable for Finance & Treasury), a senior communications consultant, and two additional team members (one is shared with IT/Digital Comms) responsible for communications consultation and developing internal / external communications strategies, messages, and tactics in support of a broad range of complex and far-reaching, business strategies, programs, initiatives, and thought leadership related to facilities operations & management, physical security, environmental health & safety, procurement and supply chain, business optimization, healthcare technology management, corporate real estate, and facilities design and construction.IT & Digital Communications: A director, a lead communications consultant, a communications consultant, and additional shared team members as needed (shared with EBS Comms) responsible for communications consultation and developing internal / external communications strategies, messages, and tactics in support of a broad range of complex and far-reaching business strategies, programs, initiatives, and thought leadership related to the chief technology office, IT infrastructure and architecture, cybersecurity, care delivery technology services, health plan business operations, digital products & support, data centers operations, automation and artificial intelligence, analytics, desktop support services, IT strategy & policy, and information technology for Risant Health.Essential Responsibilities:Serve as senior communications strategist, leader, integrator, and implementer to ensure the development and delivery of communications plans / messages / thought leadership platforms that promote and protect Kaiser Permanente-s brand and reputation and serve our mission, internally and externally.Oversee the development of communications strategies, tactics, and messages that effectively communicate Kaiser Permanente-s position on any number of complex organizational programs and initiatives. Manage complicated issues across a number of confidential or highly sensitive topics, conflicting external / internal interests, internal complexities and organizational realities, media sensitivities, and political dynamics to help guide Kaiser Permanente-s messaging and communications strategies on a wide variety of topics.Develop and lead a communication process that provides proactive engagement and co-creation with partners and stakeholders to promote and advance Kaiser Permanente-s positions on various initiatives and priorities.Lead (directly and indirectly) teams of market and national marketing and communications practitioners whose mission is to help create and manage appropriate communications materials, identify opportunities to promote Kaiser Permanente-s messages, challenges, and opportunities. When team members do not report directly to this position, leadership is accomplished by leading through influence. Work closely with the National Executive Team, Market Presidents, CCO, Market Vice Presidents accountable for Communications, and other senior leaders at the enterprise and market levels to understand and be conversant with the business issues underlying the communications strategies that are being created.Appropriately engage and leverage leaders to be effective representatives of our message and position Basic Qualifications: Experience
Minimum fifteen (15) years of experience in executive, corporate, programmatic, and internal communications, public/media relations, for a large, complex/matrixed organization, at a management level. Education
Bachelor-s degree in journalism, public relations, communications, political science, or related field required. License, Certification, Registration N/A Additional Requirements:
Demonstrated ability to lead, plan, and manage inter-disciplinary teams and complex communications programs on any number of relevant business topics.
