This position exists within the Pacific Northwest Evidence-based Practice Center (EPC), a research program of the Department of Medical Informatics & Clinical Epidemiology (DMICE), OHSU School of Medicine. The Pacific Northwest EPC is designated by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) as one of nine Evidence-based Practice Centers, and conducts systematic evidence reviews and produces evidence synthesis products for the AHRQ Effective Health Care Program and the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, and other foundations, professional associations, and other state and federal government agencies. As a part of this work, the EPC completes comparative effectiveness reviews, meta-analyses, technology assessments, and clinical guideline development.

 

This position assists faculty and other research staff. Under direct supervision, organizes literature search files; develops and formats data tables; reviews scientific articles for inclusion and extracting data/information; contributes to assessing and rating studies. May assist with meeting notes and managing systematic review software. This is an hourly position. Hours to be arranged based on project needs and mutual schedules.

Function/Duties of Position

Build and maintain EndNote libraries (bibliographic databases), and coding procedures to enable production of deliverables at the end of each project.

Follow established coding mechanisms to retrieve requested papers from online library databases and hardcopies from the OHSU library. Accurately track retrieval status, keep organized records of all papers, and appropriately distribute them to project manager and other team members. Coordinate with student workers to maintain organized records and locate, print, and articles.

Develop, maintain, and complete data tables using Excel, Word, or other software. Perform quality checks. Contribute to development of graphics and/or analyses that present results and aid interpretation.

Assist team members with: reading scientific articles in medical journals for potential inclusion in reports; extracting specific information from articles into data tables; performing quality checks of data; and assessing the quality of evidence.

Assist with preparations for meetings. Weekly participation in meetings with various teams.

Record and compile disposition of comments from expert reviewers, quality check.

Format reports and manuscripts for submission to government agencies, other funders, and scientific journals and produce slide presentations in PowerPoint. Follow multiple style guides for formatting and copyediting of reports and manuscripts.

Required Qualifications

Bachelors in relevant field OR

Associate's AND 2 years of relevant experience OR

Equivalent combination of training and experience

Familiarity with systematic reviews, or clinical or health services research.

Equivalent combination of training and experience

Ability to work independently within a team structure and adhere to strict deadlines. 

Ability to attend to detail and perform tasks with a high degree of accuracy. 

Ability to use Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications Courses in epidemiology, research methods, statistics, and/or scientific or technical writing preferred. 

1-2 years of research experience.

Familiarity with scientific literature.

Ability to learn new software programs.

Experience using reference management or systematic review software (e.g., EndNote, Distiller, Covidence).
