Job Title: Construction Estimator
Job Description
Our mid-sized concrete contractor client is seeking an experienced Construction Estimator to focus on their small, medium, and large concrete bid proposals. As an Estimator, you will support our lead estimators and management while playing a key role in keeping business operations and activities organized and on track. Working with our team, you will perform take-offs/estimates, attend onsite pre-bid and post-bid meetings, and work directly with customers and the trades team on multiple projects. This role requires a high level of organizational skills, timeliness, and persistence.
Responsibilities
+ Analyze requirement documents, blueprints, and project plans to gain a thorough understanding of the project.
+ Determine what factors of production will influence the cost of a service or product.
+ Prepare material estimates and cost estimates for the product or service.
+ Create labor estimates for any project.
+ Manage bids from vendors and contractors.
+ Use bid data to prepare detailed cost analysis.
+ Present prepared estimates to management and other stakeholders.
+ Compile and record actual costs.
+ Assist in the preparation of proposals, correspondence, and bid documents.
+ Assist the project team in securing all necessary permits and licenses.
+ Track multiple projects simultaneously and help resolve issues in a timely manner.
+ Coordinate project communication among architects, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors.
+ Provide support to accounting staff for construction billing and accounts payable.
+ Control documents and maintain job files.
Essential Skills
+ 1-5 years of experience as an Estimator in the commercial and/or industrial construction industry.
+ Experience using construction management software to compile bids and intel.
+ Ability to read and interpret blueprints from industry knowledge and explain the estimating process.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Specific commercial/industrial concrete estimating experience is a plus.
+ Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), and other standard desktop applications.
+ Good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with management, employees, customers, and trade professionals.
+ Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, and the ability to handle multiple priorities and tight deadlines.
+ Flexibility and willingness to accommodate last-minute requests in a fast-paced environment.
+ Ability to maintain a positive outlook and willingness to overcome challenges to accomplish tasks.
+ Prior estimating and/or construction experience is a plus.
Work Environment
This role typically requires working Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend work in emergencies. The workweek is generally 45-50 hours. The estimator will spend approximately 65% of their time in the office and 35% on the road visiting sites and securing business. Site visits will involve gathering information and analyzing proposals, specifications, blueprints, and construction documents. The estimator will work closely with project managers to coordinate and oversee vendors and subcontractors during the bid process. The company has a family-owned style of operation since 1957, and they handle concrete/parking lot business for various clients, including hospitals, dealerships, and restaurants.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $33.65 - $60.10/hr.
