Equity Research Analyst - Health Care

      

The Equity Research Analyst-Health Care assists senior analysts in conducting studies of industry groups and specific securities, via modeling, framework creation and beginning to integrate qualitative work on strategy, competitive position, etc. for thesis development and verification. The incumbent studies market sectors and market trends and may use quantitative screening tools.

This position is a mid-level analyst that continues to work under direction of management or senior analysts. The ideal candidate has 2 to 4 years of research experience, or it may be an entry-level position for MBAs with relevant work experience, which may include an internship with an investments or related firm.

Research analysts develop and refine sector-specific research knowledge and skills, including running meetings with company management, contacting expert networks, and attending industry conferences. Thrivent’s Equity function includes equity research analysts who conduct fundamental analysis of individual companies, focusing on business factors such as: financial performance, competitive industry positioning, quality of company management, etc. Research analysts contribute to process improvement for the Equity function.

         

          

Job Duties and Responsibilities 

Develop and/or maintain financial models and industry/sector frameworks, as well as proactively pursue new and innovative quantitative analyses of the relevant companies and industries. 

Conduct proprietary research efforts as assigned by senior research analysts and participate in analyst meetings, conferences, and other meetings as requested. 

Support relevant communications efforts of senior analyst(s), interacting with other analysts and portfolio managers as requested. 

Proactively contribute to company- and industry-level intelligence, adding to the proprietary information flow of the team(s) in developing investment conclusions.   

Identify sources and sustainability and follow and understand status and trend of competitive position of companies within assigned industries.  

Understand drivers of growth within healthcare industries. Critically assess the strategies of company management and implications for equity performance.  

Understand the impact of external forces on healthcare industries – regulation, global economic activity, supplier and customer leverage, labor, technological change, etc.  

Recognize sector specific valuations approaches and opportunity via mis-valuation. Be able to clearly communicate conclusions to senior analysts and portfolio managers. 

 

 

Required Job Qualifications 

BA/BS plus either a master’s degree in relevant area of study or progress toward CFA accreditation.  Prefer both a master’s degree and progress toward CFA. 

2 - 4 years of research investment experience, with at least one year of experience specifically focused on healthcare.     

Strong fundamental research skills and a passion for stock picking.  

Excellent verbal and written communications skills 

Strong technical skills, including expert use of Microsoft Office software, Excel, Bloomberg and/or FactSet

The applicable salary or hourly wage range for this full-time role is $133,386.00 - $180,464.00 per year, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will be determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to, location, relevant experience, skills, and knowledge, business needs, market demand, and other factors Thrivent deems important.
