The Respiratory Equipment Technician maintains, cleans and assembles equipment at their assigned Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) hospital. Orders supplies, manages the cylinder inventory and services the central gas system.
Responsibilities
A day in the life of an Equipment Technician, Respiratory at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
Demonstrates knowledge of the use of the respiratory therapy equipment and supplies that are required for respiratory therapy procedures.Demonstrates knowledge of the care, cleaning, disposition and storage of respiratory therapy equipment and supplies.Demonstrates knowledge of the management and security of stock medications.Documents all data and findings in a consistent, comprehensive and legible manner. Documentation includes, but is not limited to equipment logs, receivers, environment of care logs, repair tags, service reports and all other medical records compliance where applicable. Consults with immediate supervisor or assigned personnel for the ordering of the required medical gasses for the medical center.Maintains PAR levels of Respiratory Therapy Supplies. Placing supply orders with direct leader approval when necessary. Maintains proper documentation on purchase orders.Manages the stock of supplies and ensures stocked areas are organized and well kept, where applicableReceives, documents and stores as per site protocol a diverse range of medical gasses.Completes and documents assigned oxygen safety rounds.Rounds, documents, changes cylinders on all assigned medical gas manifolds.Manages the stock medication inventory and services the remote medication carts, where applicable.Provides observations to identify and evaluate the state of equipment in order to maintain patient and equipment safety.Maintains infection control standards throughout the department and in satellite locations.Maintains the safety and security of the cylinder inventory and centralized medical gas supply systems.Recognizes and responds to medical gas supply system alarms.Maintains equipment in a state of readiness.Manages equipment par levels in order to prevent rentals. Coordinates rentals with direct leader approval when necessary.Maintains medical gas and therapeutic supply levels within the department and in satellite locations.Manages supplies and works with pharmacy to maintain medications par levels, where applicable.Communicates and collaborates with all members of the patient care team including nursing, pharmacy, receiving and transport staff.Manages communications between equipment technicians, clinical and biomedical staff.Provides on-call hours as needed.Other duties and/or projects as assigned.Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.Lifts a minimum of 10 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 5 lbs. and stands a minimum of 6 hour a day.Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:One year experience as a Respiratory Therapy Equipment Technician.Experience with high pressure oxygen cylinders and electrical devices.Licenses and Certifications Preferred:American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider (HCP) Certification.Contacts:Regular contact with medical personnel and its visitors.Working Conditions:Lifts a minimum of 10 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 5 lbs. and stands a minimum of 6 hour a day.
