Job Summary
The Marathon Kenai Refinery is seeking an Environmental Specialist/Engineer. The position reports to the Environmental Manager and will be part of a team of experienced environmental professionals. The Environmental Specialist will perform a variety of tasks to support and ensure environmental compliance across refinery operations. Responsibilities will include, but not limited to, leading and supporting the development, implementation and monitoring of programs and policies to ensure compliance with federal, state and local environmental regulations. The available schedules for the position are 9/80 or 5/40, after hours calls occur only occasionally (approximately once every 2 months) and support of turn around once every three years (three week duration).
Key Responsibilities:
Ensure assigned environmental compliance programs are in conformance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
Prepare required regulatory reports in areas of responsibility.
Provide regulatory compliance assistance to other departments within the refinery.
Review refinery projects for regulatory compliance and develop compliance schedules.
Review new regulations for potential impacts on the refinery.
Work as a member of an Area Team to support day-to-day operation of the refinery in compliance with applicable requirements and company policies.
Lead and participate in incident investigations and implement corrective actions as requested.
Lead and participate in HES field audits and develop corrective actions, as required.
Responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with regulatory agencies.
Develops environmental information, manuals, training material, and programs; conducts appropriate training sessions.
Education, Experience and Skills
Must have a Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Chemistry, or other related natural or environmental science. (Education must be obtained/completed prior to start date) (Degree must be accredited in US.)
Must have at least 2 years of Environmental experience in a refinery, petro-chemical or other related heavy industry.
Must have strong written and verbal communication skills. Must have strong interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to influence others.
Must be proficient in Microsoft: Word, Excel and Outlook.
Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery, be able to physically perform all tasks in the field and take hair drug test and physical.
Must be able to obtain a TWIC Card.
Must be legally authorized to work in the US without the need for future VISA sponsorship.
Travel Requirement is 5% or less.

Preferred Qualifications
Environmental experience in petrochemical industry is preferred.
Knowledge of refinery safety policies/procedures and environmental regulatory requirements relating to refinery operations.
More than 2 years of Environmental experience is preferred.
Experience with compliance management/tracking software is preferred.
HAZMAT endorsement is preferred.
