Responsibilities

In this position you will work as a key part of the Environmental, Safety & Health team at the Patriot Centre site in Martinsville, VA. You will also spend time assisting our Fieldale and Axton facilities. You will be responsible for providing technical support to ensure facility compliance with all applicable environmental regulations and permits are maintained. As the site subject matter expert, you will utilize your experience with wastewater operations, storm water permits, plan development, (SWPP and SPCC) and inspections. As the site functional specialist in air, and Hazardous Waste regulations, you will be responsible for managing Air Emissions (minor Source) ability to conduct New Source Review (NSR), Refrigerant Compliance, in addition to other air permit and program needs. You will also have reporting duties for SARA 312 (Chemical Inventory) and SARA 313 (Toxic Release Inventory) reports, Annual Air Emissions Inventory, and RCRA hazardous bi-annual waste reporting. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining environmental required software and documentation.
As the site Environmentalist, you will be the facility liaison for regulatory agencies, corporate, and civic organizations. You will review and analyze environmental documentation issued by federal EPA, Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, and other state and local agencies to determine the impact on company operations. You will also determine all associated financial, public, and environmental impacts.
In addition to the Environmental responsibilities, by being a member of the Global HSE team, you will be one of the GHSE liaisons to the sites operating departments. As such, it requires you to have general knowledge of personnel safety, industrial hygiene, and process safety management. In addition, you will serve as site resource for all DOT and TSCA regulations needs.
 

Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in environmental, Chemical, or other applied science discipline preferred in addition to possessing general industry safety knowledge. Prefer 4 years of experience inclusive of Waste, Water and Air permit management experience- Title V permit exposure is preferred. Ability to study and comprehend complex regulations and communicate this knowledge to others with diverse levels of understanding. Keen ability to manage complex air emissions spreadsheets. Clear, effective written and oral communication. Ability to promote an idea or defend a position while maintaining good working relationships. Critical thinker and active listener with good judgment and critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Ability to ensure compliance; train and coach employees as necessary and collaborate to develop compliant alternatives along with cost saving measures. Will be site contact for all outside agency inspections for compliance needs. Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and make related appropriate decisions on a day-to-day basis. Possess initiative and the ability to work in a team setting. Good organizational, planning, and strategic skills. Strong computer experience/skillset and capability with standard software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
