Environmental Services (EVS) Technician
Position Summary: We are seeking dedicated Environmental Services Technicians to join our team at Franklin Pierce University. All EVS staff will participate in a rotating on-call program, requiring them to be reachable by cell phone and respond to the University for various tasks during different hours, including nights and weekends. As an Environmental Services Technician, you will be responsible for cleaning and maintaining both the interior and exterior of designated University buildings, including residence halls, academic, administrative, recreational, and athletic spaces. The role involves physical tasks such as heavy lifting, transporting materials, and handling biohazard substances. Weekend and holiday work may be required, as well as flexibility to meet the evolving needs of the department and University. Typical Schedule: + Monday to Friday: 7:00 am – 3:30 pm + As an essential employee, you may be required to report to campus during emergencies unless excused by the Environmental Services Supervisor or Assistant Director of Facilities. Key Responsibilities: + Clean and maintain restrooms, ensuring they are restocked with necessary supplies (e.g., paper, soap). + Empty trash bins and properly dispose of waste. + Perform routine maintenance on custodial equipment and supplies. + Ensure the safe and effective use of cleaning equipment, supporting continuous improvement in workplace safety and environmental practices. + Maintain an adequate supply inventory for daily custodial needs. + Secure and lock doors after cleaning designated areas. + Clean floors and carpets using various equipment such as scrubbers, vacuums, and extractors. + Respond to campus during emergencies as needed, following protocols established by the Environmental Services Supervisor or Assistant Director of Facilities. Position Requirements: + High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required. + Valid driver’s license required. + Must pass a criminal background check. + Familiarity with Hazardous Materials procedures is a plus. + One year of experience in general cleaning, including carpet and floor maintenance techniques and equipment. + Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook). Physical Requirements: This position involves significant physical activity, including heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling. The ability to lift up to 50 pounds is required. Candidates must also be able to bend, stoop, stretch, climb stairs or ladders, and perform tasks that involve manual dexterity, such as grasping and pulling. More than 70% of the role involves physical labor. Additionally, the position requires the ability to operate office equipment and computers. Work Environment: You will frequently encounter physical risks or hazards, requiring adherence to safety protocols. The environment may expose you to extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors, and loud noises.
