Your Role:

We are seeking a full-time Junior- to Mid-level Environmental Scientist/Engineer for our Kansas City, MO operations to manage and support various environmental projects throughout Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas and Missouri.  This position will primarily support soil and groundwater investigations and removal activities at Superfund site located throughout EPA Region 7 (Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska).  However, work at other sites throughout the US may also be required. Responsibilities will include preparation of sampling plans, field studies including the collection of soil, groundwater, surface water and indoor air samples, interpretation of sample data and preparation of data summary reports, regular maintenance and calibration of equipment used during field studies; and supporting other environmental studies including Phase I and II environmental site assessments.  This position will require extensive outdoor work and overnight travel. 

In this position you will be part of multiple project teams, in some cases as a project manager and in other cases as project support staff.  You will gain valuable data collection experience in the field, while managing project budgets and preparing detailed analysis of field data and project reports.  Tetra Tech provides mentoring and training opportunities to help junior staff hone their areas of expertise and diversify their interests.  

 For geologist and engineers, opportunities to achieve your P.G. or R.G., or P.E., along with advancement into project management, client development and leadership roles will be provided.

Qualifications:

Candidates should have 0 to 5 years of experience with environmental studies, analyzing for hazardous materials in the environment (soil, groundwater, air, etc.), technical writing and environmental consulting or related activities.  

Desired Skills in the ideal candidate include but are not limited to:

Must possess strong analytical, organizational and communication skills (both written and verbal).   Must also be highly motivated, customer focused and work well in a team environment.   Proficiency with MS Word and Excel also preferred.

 In addition:

This position requires driving on a regular basis. Passing a motor vehicle record background check and maintaining a valid driver's license and good driving record is required. This position requires passing a criminal background check.

Education and Certifications:

B.S. degree in scientific or engineering field is required. Completion of 40-Hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training and current 8-hour HAZWOPER refresher training are required to perform this work.  If the successful candidate does not already possess this training, Tetra Tech will provide training prior to initiating regular work duties in the field. 

 

Physical Demands:

Must be able to lift sample coolers and other equipment up to 50 pounds.  Must be able to wear full-face respirator and complete annual medical monitoring program, including pulmonary function testing.

 

Work Environment:

This position will require extensive outdoor work within the four-state area of Missouri, Kansas, Iowa and Nebraska during all seasons, including peak summer and winter conditions, with opportunities to support projects throughout the country.  Projects outside the Kansas City area will require overnight travel.
