Your OpportunityWe are seeking an exceptionally talented, enthusiastic, and experienced Environmental Scientist with a keen interest in joining the environmental services team out of our Fitchburg, Wisconsin office. The ideal candidate is a passionate individual with a diverse background to assist our project teams with botanical surveys, threatened and endangered species studies, biotic inventories, ecological assessments, wetland delineations, natural resource permitting, and project planning. The candidate will work closely with project managers, other environmental scientists, and other environmental professionals to support the development and delivery of environmental studies for projects involving wind and solar electric generation facilities, wetland and stream restorations, transportation projects, electrical transmission lines, pipelines, and other infrastructure projects for private, municipal, state, and federal clients. This is an on-call position, with flexible hours and opportunities for field work throughout the Upper Midwest with future opportunities to work with other Stantec staff around the United States.

Your Key Responsibilities Perform field studies with a focus on vegetation, wetlands, and rare plants Assist in the completion of project deliverables including rare plant survey reports, floristic quality assessments, wetland delineation reports, biological assessments, and reports for other natural resource studies. Participate in proposal preparation (work scope, task-level budgeting, cost estimates), may perform calculations, gather or review information, or prepare standard sections of proposals. Learn and follow standard operating procedures for safe work Analysis and interpretation of environmental data Frequent travel/field work will be required and may include leading field crews, performing rare species surveys, biotic inventories, and site reconnaissance, meetings with clients, landowners, and/or regulatory agencies. Your Capabilities and Credentials Proven record of technical writing experience Advanced expertise on flora and vegetation of Wisconsin and surrounding states Proficient in policies and procedures related to health and safety and applies these policies and procedures to their work Excellent verbal and written communication of technical information with clients, landowners, government regulators and agencies, as well as non-technical communication with the public Able to build strong relationships with key clients with respect to their technical area and the broader business objectives in their regions Able to build and maintain productive professional and personal networking relationships Able to effectively manage, lead, and complete tasks or projects in the field and office Safe driving record and valid driver’s license required Education and Experience At least 8 years of professional/ research experience planning, coordinating, conducting, and reporting on floristic studies, vegetation assessments, wetland studies, and rare plant surveys Post-graduate degree in Biology, Botany, Ecology, Forestry, or a related discipline, or equivalent level of experience, strongly desired Experience leading teams and projects Experience developing project proposals and grant applications strongly desired Familiarity with WDNR BNHC database review, state and federal environmental regulationsStantec is a place where the best and brightest come to build on each other’s talents, do exciting work, and make an impact on the world around us.
