Consumer Health is looking for qualified candidates in the following programs: Food, EMS, Special Waste (FOG), POOLS + Investigates various establishments and locations to educate operators on City health ordinances and recommends corrective action; performs follow-up inspections; issues warnings or citations. + Investigates complaints in public establishments or on private property; explains City health ordinances and recommends corrective action; performs follow-up inspections; issues warnings or citations. + May assist with ambulance, mobile food unit, or waste hauler vehicle inspections and surveillance. + May issue citations to operators not in compliance with City of Houston Code of Ordinances. + Will appear in court for testimony regarding violations; provides testimony in enforcement hearings. + Must cross train in other Consumer Health Programs. WORKING CONDITIONS The position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items, such as typewriters or records boxes (up to 40 pounds) and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Health Engineering or a closely related degree.
