Environmental Health & Safety Manager

What we need 

We are seeking a Safety Manager who will lead pre-to-post construction by partnering with our contractors and subcontractors in assuring compliance with applicable safety and health requirements. You will collaborate closely with warehouse operations management, internal partners, and external vendors to identify and mitigate safety risks, promote safety awareness, and drive continuous improvement in safety performance. Manage and drive key reporting for daily or weekly inspections of the workplace. This person will be a part of Enterprise Safety and help in deployment of the Symbotic Safety Program throughout the business process not limited to Manufacturing, Install, Commissioning, and Operations. This role is pivotal in ensuring the safety and well-being of employees, promoting a culture of safety, and maintaining compliance with relevant regulations and standards.     

 

What we do 

The EHS Training Manager is part of the Manufacturing Operations organization; the EHS team is responsible for maintaining and improving the overall safety and performance of the organization. The EHS organization drives compliance with regulations, fosters a culture of safety, environmental responsibility, and social consciousness, while building a strong stakeholder relationship to drive a culture of Safety at Symbotic. 

 

What you’ll do 

Responsible for oversight and adherence to safety policies, procedures, and programs tailored to the unique needs of automated site warehouse operations. 

Partner with customer site EHS to conduct regular safety audits and inspections of facilities, equipment, and processes to identify hazards and assess risks. 

Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence. 

Monitor and analyze safety metrics and trends to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies to enhance safety performance. 

Serve as a subject matter expert on safety matters, providing guidance and support to management and staff as needed. 

Collaborate with internal site and customer EHS & leadership teams to design and implement safety training programs for employees, including new hire orientation and ongoing refresher courses. 

Act as a liaison with regulatory agencies, external auditors, and other stakeholders on safety-related matters. 

Stay abreast of regulatory requirements and industry best practices related to workplace safety and ensure compliance. 

Foster a culture of safety by promoting awareness, engagement, and accountability among all employees. 

   

What you’ll need 

Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field. 

Minimum of 5 years of experience in safety management, in a construction, warehouse or industrial setting with automated equipment. Automation experience preferred.  

Knowledge of plant operations/ability to work on a manufacturing floor. 

Experience working across multiple sites is required. 

Experience in EHS training and auditing required.   

Must possess strong leadership qualities including self-motivated and self-directed. 

Professional certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST), and Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) or equivalent is preferred. 

Proven results with Worker’s Compensation is preferred. 

Experience on ISO 45001 implementation, OSHA 30-Hour Trainer Certification and ASP or CSP is preferred. 

Demonstrates professional with passion for change and relentless focus on execution.  

Strong oral and written communication, analytical, problem solving and human relations skills.  

Must be highly organized; able to prioritize and meet target dates in a very fast-paced environment.  

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.  

Ability to execute on business and customer needs through strong prioritization, attention to detail, cross-functional collaboration, influence, and the ability to drive change. 

Our Environment  

Travel is required up to 50% of the time. Employee must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations.   

The employee is responsible to own a credit card and manage expenses personally to be reimbursed on a bi-weekly basis.   

Our head office is in Wilmington, MA. The person taking this position will be required to perform work at our customer installation locations for extended periods of time where equipment is installed and ready for commissioning.  (Commissioning Team) 

There will be steep stairs to climb into the structure. You may be required to routinely walk up and down stairs to navigate the automation structure. 

You will regularly be near railings that are high off the ground.  

Subject to environmental conditions, protection from weather conditions but not necessarily temperature changes. Must be capable of working in temperatures ranging from 105° to 32° Fahrenheit.  

Frequent ability to safely and efficiently lift items weighing up to 50lbs and move items weighing up to 80lbs. 

Stand/walk for up to 10-12 hours and is frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms.  

The employee is routinely required to work at heights of up to 45 feet and within restrictive areas of 24 inches. Where you may need to be able to stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. 

Must be capable of occasional and/or continuous feeling, seeing, hearing, bending, twisting, stooping, pushing, pulling, balancing, gripping, climbing, crawling, sitting, handling objects, and repetitive movement using both hands and feet. Must comply with all safety requirements and protocols, including without limitation Lock out tag out safety protocols and fall protection safety protocols.
