Ensure that all safety legislations are adhered to, and policies and practices are adopted through the review, implementation and monitoring of occupational health problems, accidents and injuries in the workplace to design preventative measures to minimise operational losses.Deliver against operational targets.Identify, control, and escalate potential risks that may lead to increased costs.Manage costs or expenses within approved budget to achieve cost efficiencies.Ensure full understanding of customer needs to deliver a quality service.Engage in cross-functional relationships to obtain and to provide work support.Ensure compliance with relevant statutory, legislative, policy and governance requirements in area of accountability.Ensure implementation of relevant policies, governance, and practice standards across the business.Maintain knowledge on relevant legislative amendments, industry best practices and internal compliance procedures and requirements.Ensure compliance is adopted in terms of systems and procedures as laid out by organization and review in response to audit findings and changes.Develop an understanding of risks and risk management approaches.Implement and provide input into the development of governance and compliance procedures and processes within area of specialisation and identify risks.Educate others and make suggestions for improvements.Network and participate in specialist risk forums where required.Implement, monitor, and control business processes according to quality standards; policy; and compliance and governance requirements in area of accountabilityResearch, enable and consult on improvements and opportunities to harness technology and platform enablement.Review existing processes and suggest innovative ideas to improve and streamline processes to drive efficiencies and minimise redundancy.Accumulate information to review work progress that provides input to reporting, decision making and the identification of improvement opportunities.Execute own work in accordance with the organisational values and code of ethics.Comply with and adhere to identified governance and compliance standards and escalate problems for investigation and resolution Identify and escalate risk as normal part of work.Assess own performance against competencies and skills required delivery.Identify development needs and select effective solutions to address own development need.Prepare a personal development plan with management to implement and review as required.Monitor own progress against development plan and measure impact of results.You will be an ideal candidate if you:
Have completed a National Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Health, Safety Management, or Occupational Health and Safety.Have 3 to 5 years’ experience in a similar environment, of which 1 to 2 years ideally at a junior specialist levelAre able to conduct safety risk assessments, identify hazards, and implement appropriate control measures.Have expertise in root cause analysis for workplace accidents, incidents, and near misses.Have In-depth understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act), National Environmental Management Act (NEMA), and other relevant South African health and safety laws.Have knowledge of conducting audits and inspections to ensure compliance with internal and external safety and environmental standards.Are able to design and deliver safety training programs for employees at all levels.Have knowledge of ISO 45001 and environmental management standards like ISO 14001.Awareness of waste management, pollution control, and water resource regulations.Understanding of behaviour-based safety programs to foster a safety-conscious work environment.Knowledge of PPE standards and correct usage in various hazardous environments.Experience in managing HSE compliance audits and interacting with regulatory bodies such as the Department of Labour, the Department of Environmental Affairs, and other industry-specific agencies.You will have access to:
