Environmental Engineer

Mueller is seeking an Environmental Engineer to join our Decatur, IL team. The primary function of this position is to provide technical expertise and support in the development and implementation of the environmental and sustainability elements of the EHS Management System (EHSMS) for the Decatur, IL facility and support similar processes at other Mueller Co. locations. This includes creating, administering, and continuously improving site-specific processes and plans; preparing applications and reports for air, water, and waste media, and interfacing with appropriate personnel in maintaining the environmental responsibilities in equipment design, repair, maintenance and operation; communicate with Local, State and Federal government agencies.

Assist EHS Manager with the development of FY health and safety objectives, targets and processesManage Hazardous and Nonhazardous Waste programsManage site air and water permitsProvide environmental training to staff and employees as neededComplete all regulatory reporting requirements, including SARA 311/312, SARA 313, Biannual Hazardous Waste report, water sampling reports and Annual Emissions ReportAssist with compliance audits and developing and implementing an internal audit process for the sitesResponsible for the maintenance and operations of the sites' environmental control devicesAssist with the Development and implementation of the site environmental policies and proceduresDrive the completion and continuous improvement of the risk assessment process (health / safety)Develop, implement and continuously improve all health and safety elements within the EHS Management System:Ensuring compliance with the Mueller Co EHSMS which will include expectations established within OHSAS 18001, VPP, best practices, and local / federal regulationsManagement of Change for any relevant modifications and/or changes to processes, equipment, plant layout, or peopleSTART Observation process utilized to increase the quality and quantity of safety conversationsChampion the Industrial Hygiene processLead health and safety audits and inspections to identify and correct potential hazardsProvide technical advice, coaching, guidance, and mentoring to all site personnel on health and safety initiatives.Facilitate or conduct the analysis of incidents, including first aid and near hits, and the development and implementation of corrective and preventive actions.Effectively provide and/or coordinate education/training at the facility necessary to recognize, evaluate and control workplace health and safety hazards         Submits First Report of Injury and maintain OSHA logs, Dakota database, completes assigned monthly reports and maintains health and safety statistics Serve as Primary Emergency Response coordinator for Plant Emergencies; Supervise the operation and training of plant emergency personnel and equipment                                                                        Manage workers’ compensation injuries and return-to-work activities. Liaison between company and any outside medical source; coordinates new hire physicals, annual hearing exams and maintains employee medical and worker compensation filesPerform all other duties as assigned

Required Skills:

BS degree in EHS, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Safety, Ergonomics or Industrial Hygiene required. Master’s Degree preferred.Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with all levels of employees and outside professionals.Must demonstrate the ability to manage multiple tasks and determine priorities.
