Role description
As an Environmental Health and Safety Engineer, you will play a vital role in ensuring regulatory compliance and implementing EHS best practices across our projects in Canada. Day-to-day, you will lead initiatives to assess, improve, and maintain environmental and occupational safety standards while supporting clients in achieving their sustainability and safety goals. This role offers you the opportunity to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, manage projects, and deliver high-quality solutions tailored to complex EHS challenges.
We are looking for an intermediate level professional to strengthen our team and contribute to the development and execution of effective EHS strategies. Your expertise will be critical in driving audits, reviewing management systems, and ensuring quality assurance across diverse industries and environments.
Role accountabilities
As an Environmental Health and Safety Engineer, your responsibilities will include implementing and managing EHS audits to ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal regulations. You will be involved in supporting multi-site EHS compliance assessment projects, including bid preparation, project team management, and ensuring the highest standards of quality assurance.
You will review and evaluate environmental and occupational safety management systems in line with ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and related standards. Additionally, your role will involve managing the internal quality management system following ISO 9001 requirements, overseeing system improvements, and ensuring alignment with organizational goals. Through your work, you will contribute to delivering innovative solutions that prioritize safety, sustainability, and compliance.
Collaboration will be key, as you engage with clients, stakeholders, and internal teams to provide tailored advice and support across EHS-related processes. Your structured approach and ability to manage multiple priorities will enable successful project delivery while fostering continuous improvement in environmental health and safety practices.
Qualifications & Experience
To excel in this role, you will bring:
A completed university degree in geosciences, natural sciences, environmental sciences, or engineering. 8+ years of relevant professional experience in occupational safety, environmental protection, or regulatory compliance.Other key experience will include:
Sound knowledge of Canadian occupational safety and environmental law. Experience working with formal management systems in accordance with ISO standards (e.g., ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 9001). Working experience in conducting Environmental Compliance Management Assessments and Audits pertaining to, but not limited to: Halocarbon Regulations, PCB management, Pest Control, Fuel Storage Tank Systems. Spills and Emergency Response, Wastewater Management, Waste and Hazardous Waste, Hazardous Materials Management, Air Emissions Management, Land and Wildlife An independent, structured approach to work, strong analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively within interdisciplinary teams. Fluency in written and spoken English (French proficiency is an asset). Flexibility and willingness to travel as required within Canada. Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities successfully. Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive mindset.Why Arcadis?

The salary range for this position is $89,000-134,000. The base salary represents Arcadis’ hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.#LI-HC2
