Environment Manager

The delivery of the Westinghouse UK Fuel Growth Program is essential to the future of nuclear fuel products, for all current, and future reactor types, and is a fundamental part of the UK Government’s Nuclear Roadmap and Net Zero 2050 commitment. The portfolio is fundamental to the Westinghouse UK Fuel long-term strategy and essential for the growth of Springfields Fuels site.

We are looking for an Environment Manager to join our expanding team.  Reporting to the EHS Director the successful candidate will provide leadership on Environmental management at Springfields, utilising a team of direct reports.  This includes liaison with Environment Agency and other regulators, providing oversight, advice and support to operational plants and project teams.  

 

Your Day to Day: 


•    Ensuring all site activities are carried out in compliance with the sites environmental permits and all relevant environmental legislation.

•    Being appointed as the sites nominated Intelligent Customer for Environmental compliance.
•    Managing, developing and implementing environmental strategies and action plans to meet the sites sustainability goals and maintain ISO 14001 accreditation.
•    Auditing, analysing and reporting environmental performance to internal and external customers, parent company and regulatory bodies.
•    Make informed decisions, liaising and supporting technical discussions with a wide range of stakeholders including regulators, local authorities, customers and operational plants.
•    Carrying out impact assessments to identify, assess and reduce the organisation's environmental risks.
•    Promoting a culture of environmental awareness and ownership at all levels of the organisation.
•    Writing/approving a variety of environmental assessments and reports including BAT assessments, environmental risk assessments, and improvement programme reports.
•    Keeping up to date with regulation, legislation, and industry best practice.
•    Participate in the emergency response program including taking part in emergency exercises.
•    Preparation, review and approval of environmental documentation relevant to the role (including instructions, training packages, plant modification proposals).

•    Line management and development of Environmental Team.
 

To be successful in the role we are looking for Candidates with the following requirements: 


•    MSc or BSc (Hons) in environmental science, natural sciences or other science discipline. 

•    Demonstrable post-qualified experience in environmental management or environmental consultancy ideally within the nuclear industry.
•    Full or Associate membership of the Institute of Environmental management and Assessment (IEMA) or an equivalent professional organisation would be beneficial.
•    In depth knowledge of the Environmental Permitting Regulations and associated permit requirements/ conditions.

•    A good understanding  of other key environmental legislation relevant to the nuclear / chemical industry such as COMAH, Emissions Trading Scheme, ESOS and ozone depleting substances regulations.
•    Demonstrable track record of delivering projects within the scope of environmental permitting regulations.
•    Proficiency in the authorship and production of technical documentation.
•    Strong problem solving skills, the ability to make informed decisions and be able to work within a multidisciplinary team.

•    Able to manage own workload and that of a team against, understanding work priorities and managing risk.
