Summary You will serve as an ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (MECHANICAL) in the Submarine Fluid Engineering Piping & Mechanical Branch (C265), Fluid/Mechanical Engineering &Planning Division (C260), Office of Chief Engineer (C240), Engineering and Planning Department (C200) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD. Responsibilities You will perform and direct other lower grade engineers and engineering technicians in the performance of system analysis and design services. You will prepare advance planning Technical Work Documents (TWDs). You will review existing Ship installation Drawings (SIDS) and equipment technical manuals. You will prepare Job Summaries and Task Group Instructions (TGIS). You will identify material costs and production man-hours required for all phases of tasking for incorporation into Job Summaries and for preplanning use by shipyard customers. You will resolve problems encounter during removal, installation, grooming, or testing phases of waterfront production efforts. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience applying mechanical engineering concepts, principles, methods, precedents, and techniques with comprehensive, intensive, and practical knowledge. Experience applying the latest developments and techniques in solving and identifying problems, evaluating and recommending solutions. Experience applying design experience and technical knowledge of engineering aspects unique to nuclear-powered naval vessels. Experience preparing advance planning Technical Work Documents (TWDs) in the form of Engineering drawings, Job Summaries, Task Group Instructions (TGIs), Production Estimates, testing, and material procurement documents for installation, removal, modification, repair, and maintenance of temporary service systems, and maintaining and recovering from loss of cleanliness on shipboard steam plant clean systems. Experience determining the cost and availability of material using various data bases along with ordering requirements, knowledgeable of ordering codes. Experience in piping and mechanical systems and components on all classes of naval vessels or similar. Experience in Submarine Safety (SUBSAFE) programs with re-entry control requirements.
