Engineering Manager II
**About the Role** Customer Obsession Engineering at Uber is dedicated to building products that delight customers across all lines of business on a global scale. We are seeking a strong Engineering Manager (EM2) to lead our Automation Platform team—an essential component in driving scalable, intelligent customer support solutions. In this role, you will be responsible for building, mentoring, and managing a high-performing, cross-geo engineering team based in the Bay Area and Bangalore. You will play a critical role in defining technical strategy, driving engineering excellence, and collaborating with cross-functional partners to solve complex business problems at scale. This is an exciting opportunity to champion customer obsession through innovation and lead the development of impactful platforms that power Uber’s global support experience. **What the Candidate Will Need / Bonus Points** \-\-\-\- What the Candidate Will Do ---- 1. Setting and refining the engineering vision for this team and collaborating with product management to build best in class systems 2. Building, mentoring and managing a strong and high-impact cross-geo team across the Bay Area and Bangalore locations. 3. Managing a team of engineers across disciplines (frontend and backend) 4. Collaborating with stakeholders and our customers including Product Managers and CommOps to integrate and leverage Uber's Automations for Customer support. 5. Set a strong engineering culture with a focus on quality, engineering fundamentals and architecture to scale. \-\-\-\- Basic Qualifications ---- 1. 10+ years of overall experience and 4+ years of experience managing teams. Experience in managing 10 or more engineers across different levels. 2. Experience working with product managers and other engineering teams to identify, prioritize, and solve problems 3. Experience going through the full software cycle of requirements, design, coding/testing, rollout/deploy best practices in delivering world-class software and services. 4. Strong people management skills including growing and mentoring engineers and tech leads. 5. A computer science, or engineering undergraduate degree or equivalent experience, including hands-on software development experience. 6. Demonstrated capability of leading a diverse discipline team consisting of Backend, Frontend, and Mobile engineers. 7. Experience setting up teams and managing through leaders and managers. \-\-\-\- Preferred Qualifications ---- 1. Experience in building high scale sub-second latency distributed systems 2. Experience in building and maintaining Platforms for customer support automation systems. 3. Well versed with building automation systems for customer support 4. Well-versed with Uber eco-system, development methodologies and overall processes. 5. Experience in interacting with and directly reporting to higher management is a plus point. 6. Experience with managing cross-geo teams. 7. Familiarity and experience with new AI technologies like LLMs For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$223,000 per year - USD$248,000 per year. For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$223,000 per year - USD$248,000 per year. For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
