We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Software Engineering Manager & Technical Lead to join our team. This role is a hybrid of leadership and hands-on development, where you will split your time between engineering management responsibilities and technical leadership within a scrum team. You will be responsible for overseeing a team of engineers, guiding their professional development, while also driving technical excellence, architecture, and implementation.

 

This is a hybrid position which requires working in the Waltham,MA office at least one day per week.

 

Primary Job Responsibilities

Engineering Management Responsibilities: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement Provide performance evaluations, career development guidance, and coaching to team members. Drive engineering best practices, ensuring code quality, scalability, and maintainability. Work closely with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to align engineering efforts with business objectives. Facilitate scrum ceremonies, remove roadblocks, and optimize team productivity. Own the hiring process for new engineering talent, ensuring team growth aligns with company goals. Technical Leadership Responsibilities: Architect, design, and implement scalable and robust software solutions. Ensure alignment between business needs and technical solutions, making strategic decisions for system design. Participate in code reviews, ensuring best practices are upheld across the team. Lead technical discussions, drive innovation, and advocate for technical excellence within the team. Provide hands-on development, diving into source code to set best practices and establish a high standard of technical implementation. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate new technologies and optimize system performance. Stay ahead of industry trends, evaluating new tools and technologies to drive innovation.

 

Project Scope & Complexity

Lead technical initiatives of the assigned scrum team.

Communication & Impact

Influence engineering leadership, ensuring the adoption of modern software development principles. Act as a bridge between technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and alignment.

 

 

Leadership & Growth

Mentor engineers and ensure adherence to technical and architectural best practices. Champion a culture of continuous learning, technical innovation, and professional growth within the team.

 

Qualifications

 

Education: BS, MS or PhD in computer science or related engineering disciplines.

 

Years and Type of Experience:

10+ years of software development experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role. Experience managing a team of 15+ developers, full stack preferred. Proven track record of building and managing high-performing engineering teams. Hands-on experience with designing and implementing complex, scalable software solutions. Strong background in Agile development methodologies and DevOps practices. Experience with DB, CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker), and cloud computing (e.g., GCP, Kubernetes, AWS). Experience of developing in multiple languages, Golang and Dart, Python, etc. Experience in building frontend applications with Flutter a big plus. Experience in the medical device software industry is a plus.

Strong technical expertise in system architecture, microservices, and distributed systems. Ability to balance technical leadership with people management. Excellent problem-solving and analytical thinking abilities. Strong communication and collaboration skills. High degree of initiative, commitment, and goal orientation. Ability to work effectively with a global team across various locations, including the USA, Germany, Switzerland, China, and Belgium. Very good knowledge of English, both written and spoken.
